March Madness 2009
Let The Games Begin!

Toasty Fingerless Mitts

For the month of March (and into April), we'll be hosting a Knit-A-Long very similiar to our '12 Knits of Christmas'--March Madness.  Between restlessness, winter doldrums and overall cabin fever, things can get stale pretty quickly--why not spice up your knitting life?

Every Thursday afternoon, you'll receive an email newsletter that will include a link to a free pattern or one we've written expressly for this purpose.  These projects are meant to be fairly straightforward; you need to be able to knit during those Cinderella moments!  The yarns used to complete the project will be available to you at
20% off for the entire week.
There's more!  For those of you who've got a competitive streak and would like to knit along, bring in your finished project at some point throughout each week to get a stamp on your March Madness card.  Fill up your entire card and we'll enter it into a drawing to win
a $100.00 gift certificate to Inish Knits.  Can't get here?  Send me a picture via email (inishknits@charter.net) and we'll set you up.
Drawing will take place during the championship game.

This week's pattern is one I've knit several times this winter.  I still can't get how handy fingerless mitts are.  They also happen to be the perfect transitional accessory as we bridge the gap between winter and spring.

As the calendar pages come flying off the wall, I'm shocked to find the winter is almost over.  It's March, which means that although we may still get another arctic blast (I hear there's one scheduled for next week!), we're practically in the clear.  Warm breezes, peek-a-boo toenails and yes, summer knitting!

While most of us think about our gardens, a steady stream of summer company and overall beachy behavior, this is the season where the small project is King.  Baby sweaters replace sweaters for ourselves, wedding shawls bump wooly vests to the bottom of the queue and really portable projects (mittens, hats and of course, socks!) take permanent residence in our tote bags.  Simple, no-nonsense projects are those we reach for before heading out to an evening concert at the Dunes, a few drinks with friends at the Bird or while roasting Polish dogs around the campfire.

I've got so many summer plans for Inish Knits, I can hardly wait to share.  Those of you early birds might want to think about starting your holiday gifts.   To help, we have something special planned this summer; we'll have a "Christmas in July" section of the shop designed specifically for gifts that span the range from crazy affordable to fabulously luxurious.  (Don't forget--these "little knits" aren't just meant for the holidays.  Small projects like spa cloths, lacy shawls and wine bottle cozies are perfect gifts for summer weddings, bridal showers and backyard barbecues, too!)

Okay, okay.  So maybe we're getting a little ahead of ourselves here.  Before summer, there's spring.  Which means there's still plenty of time for cool-weather knitting.  Or, better yet, plenty of time to start a summer sweater for yourself.  Think of a lightweight cardigan for the air-conditioned office, a simple knitted t-shirt to wear with a jeans skirt or even a cute tank top to wear on a special date.  We've stocked our spring/summer lines much earlier this year than ever before so that you can get started on your summer knits right now.  Stop by to peruse the ever-growing yarn and pattern selection--we know you'll find something special.  Maybe by thinking about (and planning for and talking about) summer, it'll get here that much faster.
