Dear Friends,

Oh, my... The garden at Mustards Grill has been transformed into a magical place under the steady hand of Laura. The beauty and abundance of herbs and vegetables this year is amazing and the inspiration for this month's Pour-Off Pair-Off.

Tonight, Thursday, August 2nd, look for dishes featuring lemongrass, varieties of basil, chilies and fennel. August 9th we'll showcase tarragon, chives, and varieties of thyme. The 16th will highlight rosemary, figs, oregano, and four mint varieties. It's squash blossoms, cucumbers, eggplant and chilies on the 23rd, and finally, beans, tomatoes and eggplant on the 30th. What a great time of year to be a chef (or foodie)!

At Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen, we're celebrating the best of regional American summer cooking. The Supper Club will feature summer specialties from our nation's Southeast corner on August 1st and 2nd, the Southwest on August 8th and 9th, the Midwest (native region to chef Michael and me!) August 15th and 16th, fresh cuisine from the West on August 22nd and 23rd, and for the fifth and final week, savor a taste of the Northeast. Show your support for your favorite regional cuisine, and expand your horizons with dishes from a new part of the country!

At Brassica, Jen's cocktails by the pitcher are all the rage. We can't decide if we like the Watermelon Cooler or the Bandol Breeze better. They're both out of this world. The best place to try them: on the tree-shaded patio. It's such a romantic spot to dine on summer nights. Water misters keep it cool when the temperature is hot, particularly on live-music Thursday nights.

You may have noticed I've added more wood-grilled dishes to Brassica's menu. I'm out to tempt you with irresistible dishes like Ribeye Steak Frites with tarragon butter, Maine Lobster pizza, big, fresh salads and much more.

For a delicious chilled soup on a hot August night, I give you the first gazpacho recipe I ever made, from the wonderful New French Café in Minneapolis (which sadly is no more).

Hope to see you soon!
