Greetings!
The last two weeks have seen the bicycle industry's major trade show (Interbike) and the Pro Walk Pro Bike conference for the planning, engineering and more technical side of the movement. Despite the continuing economic challenges in front of us all, these two gatherings were incredibly upbeat and positive about the future - perhaps because of the unique and compelling attributes of bicycling to individuals, communities and the nation. Ride On, America!
Sincerely, Andy Clarke |

League Bicycle Friendly Communities Announced
The League announced 18 new Bicycle Friendly Communities (BFC) and eight renewing BFCs at the Pro Walk/Pro Bike Conference on September 15. This round of awards was exciting because communities that won and renewed implemented past feedback and improved their cities. See the complete list of BFCs here. |
League Bicycle Friendly Businesses Announced
The League announced 63 new Bicycle Friendly Businesses (BFB) and eight renewing BFBs on September 23 at Interbike during the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Industry Breakfast. This round of awards was especially noteworthy because of the number of awardees -- a 45 percent increase from last round -- and because of the amount of local governments who applied for a BFB designation. We awarded three local governments the BFB designation - Bloomington City Hall, Ind.; Arlington County Government, Va.; and the City of Fayetteville, Ark. See the complete list of BFBs here. |
National Bike Summit -- Act on a Simple Solution
The League's National Bike Summit will be March 8-10, 2011 in Washington D.C. We are still downtown but have changed to a larger venue -- the Grand Hyatt -- to support our growing group of attendees. Registration is now open, along with sponsorship opportunities. Contact Walt at walter@bikeleague.org if you need further information. |
National Park Needs National Action
Grand Teton National Park is about to set an unfortunate precedent in trail design in our National Park system by needlessly compromising a potentially great trail project. Our local affiliate out in Jackson Hole, Wyo., Friends of Pathways, has asked for a national response to the location of a trail too close to the major high-speed road running through the park. Please read more about the issue here or go straight to the online petition here. |
