Interest rates remain in check - economy showing no heat.
Inflationary pressure - always the key driver of higher interest rates - remains non-existent in the U.S. economy and farmers can probably look for continued low rates on short term borrowings, and relatively flat rates for longer term loans as well. Read more about interest rates by clicking here.

If you are experiencing stress on your farm, talk to your FSO
Net farm income for U.S. farmers is projected to be $54 billion for 2009, down $33.2 million or 38% from last year. If this projection proves true, this will be the lowest net farm income since 2002. Pork and dairy producers continue to face the greatest challenges. Crop farmers have a crop that is still mostly still in fields and was significantly more expensive to plant compared to history with prices below last year's record levels for most commodities. Customers growing poultry for integrators are experiencing more normal turns between flocks resulting in improved earnings over what they experienced in 2008.
In addition to reduced farm earnings, off farm earnings have been reduced for some of customers. In light of these factors, our Financial Services Officers are prepared to work with customers who may experience difficultly meeting their obligations. The first step in this process is the customer and FSO to talk through the issue, how it can be corrected and how long it will take. There are options and actions we can take to help customers through stressful times. If you believe your current situation may create challenges, talk to your FSO. Don't wait until payments are delinquent. In these times both the customer and FCS need to be proactive and committed to forge a successful resolution.
