Thank You!
Concentra

We are thrilled to announce that Concentra Financial has renewed their sponsorship of the Children's Discovery Museum for 2010 - thank you!

Kids to Kids

We raised over $600 for the Haiti relief effort, between January 18 and 24. Thanks to everyone who helped out! It is said that if you have change in your pocket at the end of the day, you are in the wealthiest 8% of the world's population.

Free Admission this Sunday
Courtesy of
Tim Hortons

Admission to the Children's Discovery Museum is FREE this Sunday, February 7 (and the 7th of every month in 2010!). Tim Horton wore the number 7 while playing for the Maple Leafs. The Museum is open noon to 4 p.m., and READ Saskatoon will be sharing stories 12:30 - 1 p.m. We hope you join us!

Also this Sunday: the Children's Discovery Museum will be at the Heritage Festival at the Western Development Museum , noon to 5 p.m., with a bean sprouting activity. Admission is free.

Colour Mixing Exhibit
Spectrum 2010

We have a new exhibit at the museum! It was created for Spectrum 2010, and features additive and subtractive colour mixing. Hands-on activities include mixing coloured light, creating a coloured spinning top, and taking a close look at the pixels on a TV screen. Do you know what the primary colours are? Are you sure?

Thanks to Barndog Music Productions and the CNIB for their donations!

Access Program Update
Our Access Program school and preschool visits are proving to be lots of fun for everyone. On February 2, our program leader Helena reported a very enthusiastic kindergartener told her "this is like a dream to me!"

And Carlee Eng from Bishop Roborecki Community School had this to say:

I just got back from the Museum with my Prekindergarten classes and we loved it!  It was so nice to bring the kids somewhere where they could touch, hold, feel, explore, and play with EVERYTHING!  I usually do not look forward to field trips because it requires me to constantly be telling the Prek's 'No', but for this trip everything was a 'Yes!'.  The kids were so played out that many of them fell asleep on the bus!  When we got back to school, the kids were still talking about being vets, so we have now set up a big vet center in our room!  Thank you for inspiring our learning outside and inside our classroom!  The museum inspired so much creativity within the students - I loved seeing them perform on the stage, it was great! Thank you for giving these students an opportunity they would have never had otherwise!

PLEASE NOTE: we are very busy on Mondays and Tuesdays right now. Sometimes the Museum is closed to the public for the whole day. Please call ahead, or check the website calendar, so you aren't disappointed!

Draw Prize Winners
Lucky Jill Gendall is the winner of a Children's Discovery Museum tote bag full of treats. Jill brought in an ad from the Saskatoon StarPhoenix to gain free admission and had this to say:

Thank you for providing a wonderfully stimulating and child-centered environment for children to enjoy in Saskatoon.  We're from Melfort, so we don't come in that often, but every time we're in the city we always make sure to come!

During Spectrum 2010 at the U of S Engineering College, Faith Villeneuve entered and won a birthday party for 10 children while  Steve Rosvold won the family membership, good for one year.
