Special Thanks to KGIC Partner Schools | |
Over the past few months, King George International College has had the privilege of welcoming and working with a variety of different schools and partners. There have been a number of fantastic Pathway activities that have been held, which have allowed for our students to learn more about our amazing partners and the great programs that they offer.
For these reasons, we'd like to thank Fairleigh Dickinson University for allowing us to tour their school and provide for us information sessions. We'd also like to thank Thompson River University for organizing a free bus tour to their Kamloops campus and providing an open house session with our KGIC students.

In addition, we'd like to thank Sprott-Shaw for a wonderful school tour. Finally, we'd like to thank Sheridan College for taking the time to organize an information session and meet with our staff. In the coming months, we look forward to continuing our strong Pathway partnership with these schools!

Greetings!
Summer is finally here! In Vancouver, students had the unique experience of witnessing the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Students showed great spirit as they cheered on the Vancouver Canucks. Although they didn't win we wish them better luck next year.

After School Clubs at KGIC Vancouver
At KGIC we like to go beyond the classroom and give our students a full experience for their time in Canada. At our Vancouver campus the After School Clubs program has been very popular with students. This month we'd like to share with you some of these exciting clubs that students can participate in after regular classes have finished.
Yoga
Yoga is a relaxing and toning exercise which originated in India. In class students learn many different yoga poses. The students enjoy slowing themselves down after grinding out test papers and essays. They listen to the soothing instructions of their teacher as they manipulate their bodies into a variety of positions. This is a way for them to improve their health both mentally and physically.
Movie Club
In Movie Club we watch TV shows and movies to practice listening skills. Students also have the opportunity to learn about American culture, new vocabulary, and slang. It is the new vocabulary and slang which students are most eager to learn about and use. By watching TV shows and movies, students will hear the pronunciation of native speakers which will improve their own pronunciation. It is a fun and informative learning environment centered around a commonly loved activity.
Guitar Club
Guitar Club is an introduction to the basics of guitar playing and related vocabulary and expressions in a fun, relaxed group setting. We learn how to play basic chords, scales and songs over a 2 month period. Students learn to play several different songs. One of their faovourites is "Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan. Guitar club is a great way to practice English in an environment with other students who share an interest in guitar and music. Come and strum along with us!

Fun Filled Activities in Halifax
Peggy's Cove
Named after a young woman who survived a shipwreck near the mouth of St. Margaret's Bay, Peggy's Cove is a famous attraction in Nova Scotia for people of all ages. The intriguing landscape and beautiful ocean view drew students from KGIC Halifax Campus to visit the historic fishing village and its famous lighthouse.
Once we arrived many students followed the sound of the Atlantic Ocean and the waves crashing on the smooth, giant rocks, on top of which stood the towering lighthouse. Students admired the endless ocean horizon as they ventured across the rocky coast.
Everyone walked leisurely through the small fishing village where they found art galleries, craft and souvenir stores and the Fisherman's Memorial, a sculpture carved into the side of a cliff to show the hard work of fishermen in the village.
Citadel Hill
Students climbed the landmark grassy Citadel Hill, past the Town Clock to the fortified military village hiding inside. A group of 25 students were greeted at the bridged entrance to Fort George by a British soldier standing guard in his kilted uniform.
Everything at the Citadel Hill National Historic Site remains frozen in time. The tour guides, soldiers and other workers are all dressed and have jobs that were specific to the 1860's, the time when the fort was built. The Citadel's artillery squad demonstrate the types of ammunition and firearms that were used at the time.
