A Personal Message
From Dr. Ara ElmajianDr. Ara Elmajian
This month's newsletter will be short and sweet. It's that time of year when most of us feel overextended with holiday preparations and obligations and we certainly don't want to add "reading a long newsletter" to your list of things to do.
'Tis the season for over doing everything. Over eating, over socializing, over spending and over working. The tricky part is trying to balance the extra responsibilities this time of year brings with all the extra fun we are obligated to have and not get feeling stressed and run down physically in the process.
The word "prioritizing" comes to mind. Only we know what's most important for our own well being. It might mean opting for a yoga class instead of baking that 15th batch of holiday cookies.
Eating properly, getting regular exercise and fresh air as well as taking a few minutes here and there to relax and breathe will go a long way in helping to manage the stresses of the season.
If you are feeling like your immune system is in need of a boost drop by our clinic for our version of the "flu shot" or a nourishing IV of vitamins, minerals and supportive remedies.
Next month we will be discussing detoxification.
All of our staff and doctors join me in wishing you a joyous, relaxing and stress free holiday season with your families and friends. We look forward to seeing you again in 2009. See you on the slopes!
Ara

News from Dr. Jeni Lim TCM
Facial or cosmetic acupuncture, although a relatively new treatment in the "spa world" has been around for centuries.
Cosmetic acupuncture while improving an array of skin conditions is considered a whole-body treatment. A series of regular appointments is aimed at reducing fine facial lines as well as softening deeper ones. Other benefits are improved skin tone, reduction of dark circles under the eyes as well as increased energy.
Acupuncture in general stimulates and regulates internal organs and can also be very effective in treating a myriad of health conditions such as insomnia and weight loss to mention only a few.
Interested in a safe and rejuvenating method to improve your wrinkles and skin tone while energizing the rest of your body? Call our clinic for a consultation with Dr. Jeni Lim. Ask her about her "Notox instead of Botox" facial rejuvenation treatments using homeopathic remedies.

Herbal Sunshine- St John's Wort Dr. Ara Elmajian
Anybody need a little more sun in their life?  Well this is the herb for you! St John's Wort has been used for hundreds? thousands? of years bringing light, healing properties, and ritual to the people.  It flowers at the end of June, on St. John's Day (June 24) when it's magical and healing properties are said to peak.  It is a true tonic of the nerves. It is calming, soothing, uplifting and will actually increase the healing time of damaged nerves.  (think arnica for the nerves)  It also has potent antiviral properties, including herpes and HIV, and can be used internally or topically. It also has an incredible detoxifying effect on the liver.  Many people have heard that St. John's Wort does not always combine well with pharmaceuticals, which is because its liver activating properties can clear toxins, including some prescription drugs, out of the system much faster. St John's Wort has a sedative and pain reducing effect and has been used in the treatment of trauma (shock, concussion), wounds, neuralgia, sciatica, anxiety, nervousness or tension, depression, SAD, and menopausal mood changes.
Try this at home:
Purchase some dried flowers from your local herb store, or (best) pick your own fresh flowering tops in June.  Cover with olive oil and leave in the sun for a few weeks.  Shake often and pour off the oil when it changes to a deep rich red color.  This makes a wonderful healing oil to use topically or for massage.
