Dear ,
"The Secret Benefit of Iyengar Yoga: Grow taller, look younger!
You have all heard about the benefits of yoga: flexibility, balance, strength, calmness. As the baby boomers age, one of the least talked about benefits, but most important is . . . .posture.
 |
Good and Bad Posture: which are you?
|
No matter how much you are willing to spend on having your face lifted, your tummy tucked and your face peeled, your cosmetic surgeon can do nothing for your posture.
And unless you have good posture it will give your age away, no question.
The answer is Iyengar Yoga, where long holds in gentle supported backbends will help to reverse the collapse of the spine that most of us think inevitable! Check out some easy poses for better posture! Enjoy the summer!

Yoga for Osteoporosis
| How Iyengar Yoga helped my osteoporosis. . . .
 |
Linda Varro: A weight bearing pose like tree pose helps strengthen bones.
|
In April of 2010 Linda Varro had a scan done and confirmed what she suspected, she had osteoporosis. "I didn't want to take the prescribed medication as I had tried it previously with some side effects. The doctor agreed to have me go for one year without medication and reassess the results. A year later I had a repeat scan and I have maintained my bone density! He was very pleased and was totally supportive of Iyengar Yoga. It is my mainstay for exercise, as my other modes are more sporadic or seasonal. Thanks to the Yoga Studio!" Click on the picture for more information.

Yoga Recipe of the Month |
 |
Digestive tea |
Digestive Tea
Tea Mixture: 3/4 cup of Flax Seeds (Whole) 3/4 cup Peppermint leaves 1/2 cup of Licorice root (whole or shredded) 1/2 cup of Fenugreek (whole seeds) 1/2 cup of Fennel (whole seed)
Store the ingredients in a large mason jar and seal lid tightly to ensure freshness.
Making the tea: When making tea, boil four cups of water. Add 4 teaspoons of tea mixture. Simmer for 10 mins on the stove. Drink and enjoy!
Recipe makes four cups of tea. If you are making one cup, the ratio is 1 teaspoon of tea mixture to 1 cup of water.
The yoga studio does not make any health claims when it comes to this tea however it is widely believed that a digestive tea such as this one soothes inflamed or irritated inner walls of the digestive tract. It can calm the muscles of the stomach and aid in the digestion of a meal by reducing bloating and gas.
Thanks to staff person Ella Kinloch for this! |
