A Class at Yoga Studio South
|
|
Our Doors Are Open!
It's business as usual at The Yoga Studio South -- our doors are open.
It is very disappointing to hear about the sudden unannounced closure of The Calgary Yoga Studios (Varsity and Nosehill), formerly Yoga Studio North! Although we are a completely separate business with no longer any connections, we would like to help out the students there. So anyone with a valid pass there can take classes at The Yoga Studio South until July 15th, or until the Calgary Yoga Studios open again; whichever happens first.

| Summer is Here At Last - with New Low Sizzler Prices!

Dear ,
"Iyengar Yoga Better Than Standard Medical Care For Back Pain" - scientific study.
As we launched The Yoga Studio College of Canada new web site last week with a brand new Gold Yoga Therapy Program, yoga colleague Vic Mehta coincidentally sent me a link to a You Tube video. It shows a peer reviewed scientific study once again proving Iyengar Yoga is an amazing tool for treating a wide variety of ailments; this time back pain. Click here to check out the study reported on You Tube. The study from the West Virginia University Medical School, showed that people who did Iyengar Yoga experienced less back pain and less depression than those who followed conventional therapies like physiotherapy and pain medications. "They could sit longer, walk further, lift more . . . ," said Kimberly Williams, PhD., study author. "We are re-training the musculoskeletal system to be more in balance and alignment." But our students don't necessarily need to hear this: they experience it in their lives all the time. |

One person's feedback
| Feedback from Yoga Studio South student Jo-Ann Fraser. . . .
In my opinion, your teachers are the best! They have a unique ability to
|
Jo-Ann
|
engage all levels of yogis from beginners to intermediate in their classes.
They recommend props or other modifications to ensure that each student is getting the maximum out of each pose. I feel the practice is personalized to my particular capabilities. I can hear them when I practice at home: "Engage your legs, press the web of your hand.
|
Trish Robbins: "Challenges to engage every muscle."
| . . ."
I have learned a lot from each teacher: Trish challenges me to engage every muscle fibre in my body. Natalie, brings a creative flair to the practice. It's new, it's different and it's engaging.
|
Vic: "Deepens my practice."
| Vic teaches me to use props to relax into a pose and deepen my practice. If only his classes were longer! Val, what can I say. I've only taken one class with her, but a subtle adjustment has completely changed the way I practice Warrior II! And finally Rob's classes challenge me physically - like the others - but also challenge me mentally. Who knew that the success of those poses was as much in my mind as in my body!!
|
Natalie: "Creative flair"
| Finally, and most importantly to me, I began attending your studio to deepen my practice and build community. And I've found both! It's that sense of community that draws me to classes daily and sometimes twice dailyon the weekends. All in all, The Yoga Studio has MORE than met my expectations! I look forward to practicing with you and your team for many years to come!

Valery Petrich returns to teach at Wellington Square
|
|
Valery Petrich
|
Valery Petrich, who founded The Yoga Studio in Calgary 15 years ago, has become an instant success on her return to teaching Sunday's Iyengar Yoga Flow class at noon at Wellington Square. She had 17 in her class last Sunday.
Now she is taking on the level one class that used to be taught by Gwen Ritch at 10.15 am. Sadly Gwen is suffering a couple of injuries that will keep her off the teaching mat for some time. Many of us will miss Gwen's feisty spirit!

Gwen Rich
|
Note that Val is away this coming weekend but the classes are being taught by Tamara Bohach, a popular figure at the JCC studio. Also the flow class is canceled on Sunday July 10 for Ty Chandler's workshop.
