Dear ,
Now Iyengar Yoga is proven to help women under stress!
 |
Yoga proven to relieve stress
|
It is encouraging that people who come to yoga classes at Yoga Studio South often have stories about the benefits of yoga for their physical and mental health. But it's exciting to see these anecdotes borne out by rigorous scientific research. A study published within the last year showed that Iyengar yoga offers considerable promise for women suffering from mental distress. Twenty four women participating in a 3-month Iyengar yoga class showed significant improvements on measures of stress and psychological outcomes, according to the study by researchers at a German university. Compared to those on a waiting-list, women who participated in the yoga-training demonstrated pronounced and significant improvements in perceived stress, well-being, vigor, fatigue and depression. Physical well-being also increased, and those subjects suffering from headache or back pain reported marked pain relief. To read the original study results click on this link. OUR PERSONAL JOURNEY. . . | Yoga helps my recovery from cancer. . .
Lynne Seaman tells her moving story

I'm a 52-year-old mother of 2 teenagers, recovering from surgery and chemotherapy for breast cancer. I am amazed at the sense of wellbeing that yoga has brought to my life, as well as the increase in my physical strength and mobility, in only three months of practice! My doctors are pleased with the improvements and are not surprised that I love inversions. The increased blood flow to my brain helps with focus and balance and decreases my chemo-related-brain-fog! This condition makes it difficult to remember poses and movements from one to another, but the instructors are so patient and helpful, that I really look forward to each class.

YOGA POSES FOR CORE STRENGTH |

Plank Pose

Simple poses to strengthen your core
 |
Dolphin Pose
|
Incorporating simple core poses into your asana practice will improve nearly every pose, offering a sense of balance and ease.
Yoga's comprehensive regimen of abdominal work adds up to much more than a firm, flat belly. Because your abdominal muscles support the proper curves of the spine, a strong core can both improve posture and reduce back pain.

Me do yoga? No way! |
But now with 2 months yoga, Rick Luchak's change of heart has cured his back pain.
If you'd asked me 3 months ago whether I would see myself practicing Yoga - and that I'd actually be enjoying it I would have told you categorically No! Yet here I am, early in 2011 practicing and enjoying Iyengar-style Yoga. |

Let me tell you my story. I am a 56-year-old man who is in reasonably good health, both mentally and physically. While never considering myself an athlete, I have always been relatively active. Last spring during my training for a 10K race that I planned to run in August I noticed that my back was starting to hurt. I ignored these physical signs except for doing a little more stretching than normal. After the race, the pain endured. I went to both a Kinesiologist and a Physical Therapist. They both gave me slightly different stretches and exercises to do. Over the course of a couple of months of this treatment, not only did the back pain not go away, it in fact got far worse. By November of last year I was finding it increasingly difficult to sleep through the night due to the pain. Luckily on a weekend trip to the US I ran into an Iyengar Yoga instructor from Saskatoon. And this chance meeting turned things around for me. He suggested I consider yoga and I booked my first private session with Rob Walker in late November. In spite of how hard it was (How is it possible to sweat that much by staying in one position!?) I stuck with it. After about 4 or 5 sessions over the following few weeks I was delighted to be completely pain free! I am so pleased with the lack of back pain - and now the increasing flexibility, strength, balance and general physical wellbeing. This stuff is hard. Of that there is no doubt. But all things that are valuable are hard. So if you ask me now whether I'll be practicing and enjoying Yoga in 3 or 6 or 9 months I'll answer with a resounding "Hell, yes!" - Rick Luchak |
