Margot Kitchen's November workshop was a hug success, with 50 people registered and a waiting list of disappointed last-minute hopefuls. Everyone left amazed and refreshed Sunday evening.

Inversions February 6 Learn the preparatory stages for headstand & shoulder stand and which precautions to take into consideration if you have injuries and medical concerns.
Backbends May 1 A progressive workshop covering beginner to intermediate backbends. Preparatory stages, modifications & precautions for all teachers/students.

Student of the Month
|
Lynda Lillies
Lynda Lillies started coming to The Yoga Studios when they first opened and has long been recognized as "the friendly, familiar face of The Yoga Studio since then," says Tracy Scott, the teacher who put her name forward for student of the month. "I have watched Lynda make everyone feel welcomed and special. She lightens and brightens the class by encouraging and praising other students' practice and poses. Lynda is always there to invite a new face for coffee. When I think of the yoga studio community, I think of Lynda. She is dedicated to her practice, to having fun, to connecting with friends and always open to creating new ones." Lynda went through the teacher training program in 2002 and has never stopped learning and embracing yoga's evolution. She has total trust in and gratitude for the Iyengar Yoga tradition. Lynda herself says: "I am not a naturally flexible person, but Iyengar Yoga has given me strength, greater flexibility, improved posture and awareness of my body and mind."
Lynda says one of the best things she ever did was the studio's teacher training program. "It was an exceptional program, demanding, challenging and rewarding. It was what I personally learned and achieved that was the greatest gift." Congratulations Lynda!

Teacher of the Month

Gwen Ritch
For many yoga students Gwen Ritch is the reason they come to Yoga Studio South. They either like Gwen's fun Level I class on Sunday mornings at Wellington Square or they are addicted to the intense calorie-burning workout they get at her one-hour Power Pilates Class at noon.
Gwen was introduced to yoga for backs almost 10 years ago due to her back injury. She was inspired then to become a yoga teacher. "I consider all my students my greatest teachers. I conduct my classes from a very energetic level. I engage my students to connect and move their own internal energies throughout their practice," Gwen says in explaining her philosophy of teaching. "When one's attention is focused on a specific part of the body, that part becomes energetically stimulated and the mind body connection is made" she says. "My personal philosophy is, if we learn where we are in our body, even without 'seeing', we can avoid injuries along the way." Says Gwen: "I believe yoga is a personal journey and I continue my daily learning through practice, workshops and retreats."
Check out Gwen's upcoming workshop, Yoga and Chakra Balancing and Clearing on March 27 at Wellington Square. Congratulations Gwen! |
