SURVEY RESULTS
|

|
Most of the 370 people who returned our recent survey ranked time as the most important factor in choosing which class to got to. Type of class, location and teacher were not far behind.Teaching was not a key factor in class selection as most students reported that all teachers were good if not excellent. Most people rate teaching as above their expectation. Cleanliness, decor, reception areas and the web site were close behind. Prices and parking were seen as average in terms of your expectation. Most prefer drop in classes to registered. More than 230 people gave us feedback on improving our service, and we are reading and digesting all those comments. Thank you. While individual results are confidential, we will post the overall results on the notice boards. Congratulation Doug Poole, who won the survey prize of a 10-visit pass.

Getting Into The Spirit of Yoga! |

Protect Against the Flu and Beat The Winter Blahs!
|
Use Yoga To Boost Your Immune System This Fall and Winter
Protect yourself against colds and flu this winter with natural immune-boosting Iyengar Yoga Routines. This Yoga Journal link has some easy yet powerful poses to strengthen your body's natural defences. And here is another helpful link. These include some inversions to draw the blood to the lungs and sinuses, some twists to gently massage your internal organs, and some resting poses to reduce stress - the number one enemy for the immune system. This is not just anecdotal advice; a number of scientific studies support yoga as boosting the immune system. Although this study from researchers at Washington State University refers to breast cancer, the impact of the yoga to which it refers would improve the body's resistance to many diseases.
What we are doing to help you:
- We are providing hand sanitizer in both our studios and in the reception areas. The JCC has the sanitizer by the building entrance too.
- Our cups for tea and water are being carefully washed and sanitized in very hot water.
- Door handles, keyboards and other surfaces are being wiped with sanitized wipes.
- Studio mats are cleaned once a week.
You can help by:
- Using a neti pot to rinse the sinuses with salt water (ask reception staff for details.)
- Staying at home and practicing there if you are sick.
- Bring your own mat to yoga. See the mat special sale coupon below!
- Using our hand sanitizer.

Student of the Month
|
Paul Moore
In his own words. . .
What got you into yoga? Curiosity. I had been interested in exploring yoga for some time but didn't get into it until about a year and a half ago. I was hooked right away and now tries to come four times a week. That one class helped me understand why so many people had such high praise for yoga.
How it is benefiting you? I've always tried my best to stay fit, through sports and the gym. But Iyengar Yoga has helped me reach a whole new level of fitness that far surpasses anything I have done before. And physical benefits are only a part of the story. The holistic integration of mind, breath and body create a greater sense of overall well-being. I love to learn, and yoga strikes me as a lifelong path of learning. Even when you think you know a pose, a teacher will help you discover nuances and subtleties that give the pose a whole new layer. Those "eureka moments" are very enriching. I love the feeling when I come away from a class not only feeling better physically, but also having gained more insight into a pose and the intention behind it. I've only been doing this a short time, but I suspect that no matter how accomplished a practitioner someone becomes, they will always be able to learn something more.
And what advice would you have for others? We've all heard the phrase "commit to the pose". We should also "commit to the practice". Get out regularly and often. I remember at one of my first classes a teacher saying the hardest part about yoga was getting out the door and making it to class. And if you're tired or having a bad day, it's easy to talk yourself out of going. But go. I don't think anyone has ever come away from a yoga class and said "I wish I hadn't done that."
Congratulations Paul!

Permanent markers are available at reception for this. Eating before ClassTo get the most from a yoga class remember not to eat at least an hour before.
