VA's Foreman to speak to small business owners about verification at breakfast

Veterans who are small business owners are invited to a breakfast April 27 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

Attendees will enjoy a free continental breakfast and hear Tim Foreman, executive director of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Veterans Enterprise in Washington, D.C., discuss the VA verification process. VA has unique buying authority to support veteran-owned small businesses, but businesses wishing to benefit from VA's contracting program must complete the verification process.

The breakfast will immediately precede the Arkansas Procurement Opportunities Conference, which will connect small business owners to big selling opportunities with government and private industry. Expected to participate are over 50 government and corporate buyers.

Registration is open for Arkansas' Operation Military Kids 2010 camps

April is the Month of the Military Child. Did you know 1.7 million American children and youth under age 18 have a parent serving in the military? Approximately 900,000 of the youngsters have had one or both parents deployed multiple times.

As part of a national partnership between 4-H and the Department of Defense, Arkansas' Operation Military Kids program offers support to children who are impacted by the global war on terrorism, especially during the deployment of a parent or parents. Maureen Rose is the director of the OMK program in Arkansas.

OMK is offering several free camps around Arkansas this spring and summer for children of military personnel (pre-deployment, deployed, or post-deployment). For camp dates, locations, and information, go to http://www.kidsarus.org/operation_military_kids.htm. Contact Rose at 501.671.2066 or mrose@uaex.edu to learn more about Arkansas OMK or the 2010 camps.
