OUR CLUB.  This feeling of belonging to something bigger than you; it2008 Club Survey Results is more than just belonging to a team.  One of the great lessons of being part of a team is to teach kids that one of the keys in this life is caring for and valuing others.  "There is more to this world than you" is what I remember constantly saying to my teenager...which I vaguely remember my Mom telling me when I was growing up!

The same value can be transferred from teams to club.  Our CLUB is more than a collection of teams that wear the same uniform - there is a sense of purpose and a sense of togetherness.  From organization, administration, philosophy, to resources, a true club works for the betterment of others.  Our CLUB is far from perfect but this is something that we continue to strive toward.

Our CLUB has, however, accomplished great things!  Soon to be published are this past year's club rankings from our state.  Shadow is now ranked 6th out of over 70 soccer clubs in Washington!  We had been ranked #10 these past two years.  Our nearest local competitor finished over 80 points behind us; we finished significantly higher than any Eastern Washington club.  It was a record year for our CLUB and one that was born out of the hard work of many, many people within our organization.  But certainly, most of all this is a great tribute to our players and our coaches, and something that I hope we do not take for granted.

Our CLUB provides so much more than any one coach can or any one team can.  We know we have to keep setting the standards for communication, web sites, administration, training, coaching, and mission.  We certainly have work to do; however, it is important to reflect on the good that has occurred.  The number of players committed to play in college continues to be another area where we have set the standard, the number of teams that reached the Championship Cup Final 4 and the number of players we have had involved in the Olympic Development Program are other noteworthy accomplishments.

Now that we are about to complete the 2010-2011 season tryouts, it is important to reflect upon why we think we are a good option for your child.  It is because we are striving to be a CLUB that meets its purpose, that serves its kids and strives to be better.  To that end we are:
  • Supporting coaches through licensing programs.
  • Building our coaching support and education by adding staff:  Matt Stueckle is now our Associate Director of Coaching and Julio Morales is our Director of Coaching for our Select program.  They join Niko Varlamos who has dutifully served as the Assistant Director of Coaching for the past 2.5 years.
  • Helping direct and educate high school juniors and seniors in our club who want to pursue college soccer.  Coach Kevin Moon will run our club's College Advisory Program.
  • Expanding our U10 Junior Program.  This innovative, player-centered soccer program will be directed by Coach Moon, and we already have over 90 kids signed up to participate!  (The Technical Director of Washington Youth Soccer, Gary White was also excited about our program philosophy and intentions with these youngest of club members.)

There are great reasons to be excited about our CLUB and great reason to want to be a part of what we do.  Thank you for being a supporter and thank you to all of the hardworking kids in our CLUB!!!

Enjoy your soccer,

Sean Bushéy

What's In a Name?
That which our Shadow players earn from their hard work, commitment, and loyalty!  Thanks to so many of you who have voiced support and offered ideas as Shadow may be forced to abandon its name due to SYSA's recent proposal.
