Coaches Corner

Welcome
Julio Morales!

We are extremely excited to have Julio join us on an interim basis these next three months.  His role will be to assist the club in many different facets, but mostly to be on the field working with players and coaches.  While we hope it will work into a long term situation, we are very pleased that he has agreed to work with our club during our fall season.

Julio brings a wealth of soccer experiences both in variety and scope.  He's been a part of Olympic Development Programs, an assistant at the college level, coached numerous youth teams, and has
many college contact   - including Stanford, UC Santa Clara, Montana, Montana State Billings and Carroll College.

I have had many players come through Whitworth that have been coached by Julio and they all have very positive things to say about him as a person and a coach!   He will be a great addition to our club as we continue to grow.

Please welcome Julio when you see him as you will find him on the practice field starting September 8th!

How Do We Rate?
A note on Player Development League (PDL) promotion and relegation

The number of games scheduled in each PDL division varies based on the number of teams in each and like vs. like competition.   If there are ten teams in a division, each team plays each opponent one time this fall season.  The league is based on promotion and relegation:  top placing teams advance to the next higher division, last place teams are relegated to the next lower division.  Teams are promoted and relegated after each fall and spring season is completed (Ex:  Once the fall season is completed, the last place Division 1 team will be relegated to Division 2 next spring, and the first place Division 2 team will be promoted to Division 1 next spring).

In order for every team in any division to get a fair shot at promotion (or relegation) they need to play the same amount of games against the same opponents.

Sean's Shadow Spiel

In the 1 1/2 years I have served as Shadow's Technical Director we have seen our reorganized club reinvent itself and refocus its work toward our players and their soccer development.  On the coaching side, it's been a highlight for me to pull together a staff of the highest calibre Spokane has to offer.  On the administrative side, we have relied on our volunteer Board of Directors to handle the day-to-day administrative and financial duties.  Both groups have dedicated themselves to make soccer better for all players who enjoy the game.

With the U11 select and premier soccer unification in Spokane through SYSA, Shadow has grown from 300 players to over 650 players in one year!  Our coaching and administrative work has also doubled.

Shadow is pleased to announce, actually more than pleased, that two out-going Board members will continue their work.  Loreen McFaul has agreed to serve the club in a part time administrative position and Bill Eldridge will continue to serve as Shadow Bookkeeper.  Loreen and Bill have been a tremendous blessing to the club and to me personally in seeing this club grow over the past 18 months.  They have volunteered an immeasurable amount of hours to our kids and families, bringing their respective non-profit and financial expertise to help us grow.  As they leave their Board positions, we are happy that the club is now able to retain their remarkable skills and work in their new and critical positions.

In the Spirit of Soccer,

Sean

Shadow Board of Director Elections and Annual General Meeting

The Board of Directors (BOD) of the Spokane Shadow Youth Soccer Club is pleased to announce three candidates who have accepted nominations for the annual election of new board members:

Cary Chester
Mike Keenan
Anne Marie Muelheims

The election is based upon one (1) ballot per member (i.e. a U11 through U18 player currently rostered on a premier Shadow team and in good standing with the Club).

On September 25, a ballot and nominee bios/statements will be e-mailed to all members for their review.  Either parent or guardian may be the person to cast the ballot for each member or you can list multiple parent/guardian names together.  However, only the first ballot received referencing a player's name will be accepted.
