Sean's Shadow Spiel...
Having attended another Player Development League (PDL) meeting last week, I am reminded of the many, many tasks it takes to keep a premier soccer club at the highest level of competition. Certainly the commitment of players and their families at this level takes a great deal of energy, time, and resources. But the influence and leadership of our Shadow coaches is an important role that cannot be underestimated.
Many of our coaches are employed outside of our club. Several coach more than one team. They all balance demands of families, friends and other activities along with their commitment to Shadow. In them I place a great deal of trust as they are the "face of the club" when they take the field with their team(s).
A great deal of planning is occurring now as we look ahead to the 2009/2010 season tryouts. One of my duties is to round out our coaching staff.
With that, I am extremely happy to announce two coaching staff additions: a coach for the boys side: Ray Smith, and a new girl's coach: George Hageage. I am excited to have them become a part of Shadow; it is just another step in developing a coaching staff that any player would be proud to play for. The experience Ray and George will bring and the contacts that they have in the soccer world is unprecedented for a club in our area! (click here to read Coach Smith and Coach Hageage's biographies)
Please join me in welcoming Coach Smith and Coach Hageage to the Shadow community. As well, I ask your continued support of all of our Shadow coaches who work so hard to help your player(s) develop as soccer players and outstanding young adults. In the Spirit of Soccer, Sean Sean Bushéy Technical Director

Donors and Volunteers Make Winter Soccer Possible
A big Shadow "THANK YOU" to the following people who have worked to make winter indoor and outdoor soccer possible for our Shadow players!
To SYSA-S, Phil Helean, Ryan Spencer and Evan Sanders For paying for the snow removal at the South Complex, preparing and lining the fields, and for working diligently to schedule and reschedule home games for 13 of our 19 teams playing State Cup and Spring League games. Thank you for all you do to support Shadow!
To Simon and Becky Thompson (Adam, BU11 Navy), owners of Craven's Coffee For their generous donation of their warehouse gym for team practices and futsal and for providing coffee at the South Complex for Shadow home games this "Spring!" Their support has helped the club immensely during this challenging winter. Their willingness to donate the time to the club is most generous and greatly appreciated!
To the Spokane Shock For allowing our club to rent their facility for indoor practices from November through February.

To Dew Drop Sprinklers and Landscaping, Duane Dombrowski (Stan, BU14 Navy) and Mike Smaldon (Henry, BU11 Navy) For the donation of machine rental, tools and the repair of an irrigation valve box at a South Complex field. Thank you for your lending your expertise to clear and prepare our home fields.
To Shadow's Field Clearing Volunteers! Thank you to the 40+ Shadow players and parents who braved the cold on January 31 to clear the ice from the second South Complex playing field. The importance of your help cannot be overstated!
To Northern Capital Management and Jim Wilson (Parker, BU14 Navy) For his home game hospitality! Shadow tents and propane heaters, generously donated by NCM, have been set up to ensure warmth for our players and opponents at our "Spring" Shadow home games at the South Complex. Not only has Jim set up and taken down the tents and heaters these past three weeks in the bitter cold, he has also given away hot chocolate and cider to anyone passing by the concession stand. Thank you, Jim for your overwhelming generosity!

To Roland Gonzalez (Derek, BU15 Navy) For his efforts in
securing the Turf field in Moses Lake for State Cup and league games. Thank you, Roland!

Safety First!
When visiting any of our area soccer fields, Shadow reminds all families to please keep valuables with you or at home, not in your locked vehicles. Unfortunately, a visiting team recently had a car broken in to at the South Complex; losing a laptop, purse and getting two windows broken.
Shadow acknowledges the GU13 Navy families for their assistance to this visiting family. Below is a brief excerpt from their email to the Club:
"We had such a wonderful experience with this Spokane team. They were so helpful and generous to assist us in getting on our way. Someone called the police, another got us a broom, another actually offered to let us take their new Yukon truck home and he'd have the windows fixed in our Jeep and bring it back to us when he came to play us here in Snohomish. Can you believe that, he was really serious. Someone brought us cardboard and plastic and duct tape for our windows and directed us to a vacuum place. It was such a nice surprise to have an entire team of strangers be so willing to help out the opponent.
Anyway, we made it home safely and I wanted to let your club know what great teams live in Spokane."
