"Three HOUR Serving" is scheduled again for Saturday, October 29th.  This is a great time to gather as a group and scatter throughout the community making a difference.  This past January, Susannah Fox, our assimilation director and brain child for "3 Hour Serving" placed many of the Getwell Roaders at a place known as Damascus Road in Memphis.

The deadline to sign up to participate in our next 3-Hour Serving is THIS WEDNESDAY ... OCT. 19! You can sign up at church at the Info Center, or online here.  As a reminder, 3-Hour Serving is on Saturday, October 29. 

Getwell returns to Honduras!

 WHEN:  Feb 3 - Feb 10, 2012
WHERE: The Good Shepherd Children's Home, Zamorano Valley, Honduras 
 

WHO: Up to 15 team members
PURPOSE:  Meet the physical and spiritual needs of the home as God leads us
COST:  Total estimated cost is $1650

Cancer support group begins 

There's a new group in town! Lively Hope is a cancer support group which will begin meeting Wednesday, October 26, from 2:00-3:30 PM in the Third Place.  Enter from the west parking lot. Everyone is welcome: cancer patients, survivors, their friends or family and anyone interested in serving or learning about how cancer can be a blessing and not a curse. Refreshments will be provided.  

More mac & cheese, please!

Each year we join other area churches in helping the Samaritans fill Thanksgiving baskets for area families in need. This year our donation is macaroni and cheese. We need 200 boxes. Place your donation in the Samaritan's Box in the lobby.  

STUDENTS ...

 

FALL RETREATS ... NOT TOO LATE TO SIGN UP! Parents/Students, Just a reminder that spots for Fall Retreat are still available. The junior high retreat is October 28-30 and the senior high retreat is November 11-13.  This year both groups will travel to Lake Forest Ranch in Macon, MS.  It will be a weekend packed with worship, ropes course, paddleboats, small group time, sports and some other surprise activities.  We want everyone to go! Cost is $175! Some scholarships are available.  Email Sarah Pounders for more information or if you would like to sign-up (spounders@getwellroad.org).  Sign-up sheets have also been available at the FLC information booth and at all Student Ministry events at Getwell Road.  Remember to visit www.getwellstudents.org for all Student Ministry information!


 

Choir rehearsals begin for Christmas 

This year's Christmas program is called "Peace," and will be presented Sunday, December 4 at FOUR services:  8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.  If you are not currently participating in Choir, and are interested in participating for Christmas, please contact Michelle Wenger, Director of Music, at mwenger@getwellroad.org, or at 662-349-3680, ext. 226.  The rehearsal schedule is posted at the church's website, getwellroad.org.  Click "Serving," then "Worship Arts," and "Volunteer Calendar."  Christmas Choir attends the rehearsals marked as "Christmas Choir" and "Christmas Run-Thru."  

Food pantry volunteers needed  

Can you help out by serving at the Olive Branch Food Pantry with a few other Getwell volunteers? We need volunteers for Monday, Oct.24 from 10 a.m. until Noon, and Tuesday, Oct.25th from 9:30 a.m. until Noon. Email Kim Ball at kim.ball@yahoo.com.

Scouts selling popcorn & wreaths

Cub Scouts Troop 190 is selling popcorn and Christmas wreaths and sprays. They will be placing orders through Oct. 30th.  All items will be delivered the week after Thanksgiving. Please contact Lisa Wimberly at lwimb2001@aol.com if you want to place an order.  She will direct you to a cub scout to place an order. Look for ordering info online soon!

Parent Pack for October -  is now available at the registration desk.  It includes weekly follow up pages for the "New" Children's Church curriculum AND for Power Hour, there is now a Parent Cue to go along with the God Time cards that kids can do each week!  These will be available online soon.

Wednesday Night Studio FX - 6:00-7:30 PM.  Check in starting at 5:30 PM at the downstairs information desk in the children's building. All kids from K-6th grade are working on scripture memorization to work towards receiving bracelets in our new Bible Black belt curriculum.  Come join us!

Super Sixer Boys and Girls have kicked off their new year.  Join them for Sunday School in RM 1208 of the kid's building and Bible Study on Sunday nights from 4:30-6:00 PM offsite in homes.  For more information contact Spring at sheflin@getwellroad.org or Brad at brad@bradbutler.com.

Mark your calendars for Family Fall Fest which will be Sunday, October 30th from 3:00-5:30 PM.  It will be outside in front of the children's building and the Chapel, Third Place and Children's Building.  Get ready for inflatables, games, face painting, tattoos, balloon animals, Gospel message presentation, cake walk, crafts, popcorn, hayride and food will be for sale.  Bring your family!  Invite your neighbors!  Costumes permitted but keep them modest and not scary.  Remember that kids will want to play on inflatables in them.
