Greetings!
As the new Director of Client Relations at Product Ventures, I have had the pleasure of connecting with many of you. I look forward to meeting more of you at the upcoming FUSE Design Conference in April. Be sure to attend the presentation of Product Ventures' CEO Peter Clarke where he will share our recent work developing a new absinthe bottle - Unleashing the Green Fairy: Capturing the Essence of Absinthe Through Holistic Design on Monday, April 11th at 10:45am at the Westin River North in Chicago. If you are planning to be at FUSE, I would welcome the opportunity to introduce myself to you and encourage you to share with me a taste of Absinthe.
And how could any of us in the design business miss the fact that the "shrinking package" has been all over the news recently? As a regular contributor to Fox Business News, Peter was asked for his thoughts on the February issue of Consumer Reports, "Downsized: More and More Products Lose Weight," which mentions how we have continued to see specific product offerings getting smaller. I thought you might like to see the Fox interview where Peter discusses downsizing, "right-sizing" and the ongoing trend of simplicity.
I encourage you to visit our website and see our growing team or, even better, if you are in the area, come by for a tour of our expanded facilities. At Product Ventures, we are dedicated to bringing winning ideas to market. Our clients are extremely important to us and we feel our attention to those relationships provide the framework for true partnerships and mutual success.
Best Regards,
Lisa Zierolf Director of Client Relations

Starbucks' Logo Change Likely To Follow In The Footsteps Of GAP?

The company, which doesn't want to be known for selling just coffee anymore, announced it was dropping the words "Starbucks Coffee" from its famous, circular green logo. In its place will be Starbucks' mermaid, or "Siren" icon, which will have prominent and bigger placement on the company's drink cups and cup sleeves. "It's nice as designers to see the trend continue towards simplistic and clean design, as simplicity is powerful and certainly here to stay" says Wendy Church and Peter Clarke of Product Ventures. But the question becomes, "Will the Siren alone without the typeface of Starbucks continue to be recognized over time?" Clarke also asked. Read More

Ethnography Goes Digital By Gail Ritacco

As the Vice-President of Strategy and Insights for design agency Product Ventures, I am continually evaluating the most effective way to inform and focus our design process. With the many research tools we have available for product and package design, I have found that "digital ethnographies", also known as "blogging", provides a time and cost effective information source for clients to be an anonymous and integral part of the consumer research.

Three Technologies to Watch By Kristine Lickstein

As a Packaging Technologist involved daily in the design and development of cutting edge packaging, it's important for me to stay current on technologies that directly impact the packaging industry today. Yet in order to continually innovate within packaging and product design, it's also essential to keep an eye on advancements in technology outside of packaging. Many of these new technologies may eventually impact the packaging industry but more importantly, they will influence consumer and product interaction.
