Greetings!
When Labor Day rolls around, I always feel exhilarated with the new changes that lie ahead. This September is indeed the beginning of so many exciting new developments at Product Ventures and we have kicked off our new look with the redesign of our website. I think it reflects the vibrancy and vitality of our agency today. A part of my long-term strategic vision has recently been realized with the establishment of a branding communication division, headed by 15-year veteran, Wendy Church, previously of Wallace Church. We have also expanded our current design studio and research facility so that we can continue to bring additional value to our existing services. Our smartly designed respondent rooms, client business center, and newest state-of-the-art prototyping machine are all planned with your needs in mind. In hearing about the growth of our agency and recent hires, Connecticut Governor Rell stated, "This expansion is a true testament to Product Ventures' dedication, commitment, and leadership to raising the standards of excellence in the state and throughout the industrial design industry." Please visit our website, or even better, come experience the beauty of autumn in New England, see our new space, and let's discuss the challenges you are facing. Most importantly, we look forward to continuing to work together to create great design in the days ahead. Best regards, Peter

Understanding the Historic Heritage of Russian Packaging
Just over six months ago, I found myself in the southeastern most tip of Russia, called the Russian Far East, some 5000 miles from Moscow in a small and isolated town called Birobidzhan. The town, which we later learned was named after two rivers, the Bira, which runs through the town and the other, the Bidzhan, is located on the Trans-Siberian railway, close to the border with the People's Republic of China. We were there waiting for the court approval of the adoption of our seven year old daughter, Inga. Though the six weeks in Birobidzhan and later in Moscow, seemed endless, my wife and I spent the time exploring the countryside attempting to better understand the culture and lifestyle of the Russian people and our soon-to-be daughter's, historic heritage. Coke Greenlights Mello Yello Expansion With Retro Look
Peter Clarke, CEO of Product Ventures, a brand strategy and design firm, said the relaunch is part of a trend in which consumers are gravitating to things that are comfortable and familiar. "People are retreating like Thoreau did to Walden Pond," he said. Designs that tend to be simple, nostalgic or have a "retro flair" are comforting, whereas "things with an edge speak to fast pace, hectic and crazy. People are already overwhelmed quite a bit," he added. Read More

Getting Life from Life Cycle Analysis

Initial Considerations: Designing Sustainability In
As a technical resource in a design firm that focuses on helping our clients develop market changing packaging for their products, I believe that it's important to do what we can to design sustainability into a package early on in the process. This is a far more effective approach than trying to quickly add on a sustainability band-aid fix once the product or the package is halfway through design. Inevitably someone asks the question late in the game, "Have you thought about sustainability in the design of this pack"? Read More
