Blue skies, nothing but blue skies...

Greetings!

Nothing could be more perfect for the tray ceiling of this master bedroom. It was originally painted a wonderful soft teal, one of those indescribably gorgeous shades, more blue at first glance with the ever present lean towards green. I love the family of "Accidental" colors that occurred with this color. "Accidentals" happen when you are mixing other colors, besides white, with the main color. I was not striving just for monochromatics (simply lighter or darker shades of the starting color) but shades with hints of silver gray, sea glass green, cool blues, and warm cloudy grays, threaded through the gossamer clouds. The sky is alive as the coloring changes from natural light during the day to artificial light at night. Take a look.

It's a large tray, roughly measuring 12' by 15'. The slanted "walls" of the tray are 27" in height. I took pictures from several angles to give you a good sense of it. Here's a nice corner shot.

The first step was to fill the tray with a cloudscape. Here's two "in progress" shots.

Once complete, it was time to start constructing (painting) the tray. The home has beautiful bones and the scale is large and dynamic. No flimsy trellis type ornament here. The elements of the design are bold. I painted the framework the same color as the molding to add to the believability. My impatience got the better of me, as you can see in this next shot. Generally, I paint the main framework first, and then come back and add the shadows and highlights, but I just wanted to see the effect. Take a peek.

Nothing is more peaceful than clouds. Thinking if there's a place in your home to a few clouds? Give me a call. If you don't have a tray, a skylight opening for the clouds can be painted. Think perhaps of an elegant framed oval over a dining room table filled with clouds that set off your chandelier. Imagine the whimsy of a cloud ceiling in a powder room.

Oh-h-h-h, the possibilities!
