Spring perennials are filling in gardens in my area of Connecticut. This project took its inspiration from the owner's favorite floral choice, the peony. Take a look at what the space looked like before I started.

On the landing, the well designed space is filled with dramatic over-sized blossoms.

The niche in the center is filled with a poignant silhouette of a father and his two young sons. The sunset borrows its palette from a photograph of the setting sun over the ridge visible from the property. Here is a close-up...

and another shot of the landing.

Sometimes, magic just Happens! The peony theme collided with the silhouettes painted in the niche. The result, silhouettes of peonies frame the fabulous panels molding that rise from the stairs. The silhouettes are painted in a shadow tone instead of traditional black.

I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the exquisite design and attention to detail found in this home, designed and built by Guerrera Construction of Oxford, Connecticut. Particular kudos go to John Provenzano of Monroe, Connecticut, the master finish carpenter responsible for the abundance of trim work that provided such a lovely frame for my efforts.
This project is the perfect example of trusting your favorite things. In this case, it started with a simple flower, a peony.
Trust that instinct, and run with it.
