Oh-h-h-, the possibilities!

Greetings!

In trying to choose what projects to share while wrapping up this month's newsletter, I realized I don't often include, well, "non-mural" projects, for lack of a better category. So here goes the story of what became of an orphaned cabinet door.

I'm always on the lookout for cabinet panels discarded during kitchen installations to use for samples. A recent sample resulted in the do-over for paneled refrigerator and sub-zero doors.

The background was a strie done with a warm brown glaze. (Strie is a dragging technique where a brush is pulled through the glaze in a linear fashion revealing the usually lighter basecoat color underneath and leaving the glaze in soft, fine lines.) Afterwards, a damask pattern was stenciled on the main panel. In case you're wondering, a two layer topcoat was applied when completed making the finish extremely durable and washable.

Yes, it was a pretty sample, but then I saw some of the cut-out paper creations of Mary Delaney, credited as the originator of collage. Her botanicals became the inspiration for another possibility for my cabinet door panel. I left the stried outside panel and chose a full bodied taupe for the background of this botanical.

Someday, I hope to see this decorating the panels of an armoire, or would it not be absolutely wonderful with a variety of botanicals in a kitchen?

In the spirit of thinking outside the box, check out this ceiling in a young lady's bedroom. Its inspiration came from the pattern on the focal carpet.

Keeping it fun, Lillian August designer Patrick Briel suggested carrying that swirling movement onto the ceiling. Here is a quick shot before the light fixture was installed-sorry it's not clear but you get the idea.)

Now, here it is with this not-to-be believed light fixture. Just fascinating!

I painted the hundreds of quarter-sized circles with a bright metallic pink. The greatest challenge was fitting the swirls between the recessed light fixtures. Worth all the calculating.

Paint solutions, bound not in size or imagination.  Thank you for sharing a bit of my world with you.

Wishing you the best of the season. Happy Holidays!
