Since I began this newsletter, I think only one was focused on work I had done in my own home. This month I am delighted to share a screen that I painted for my son's wedding. I asked Ryan and my new daughter-in-law if they minded me showing this, and they assured me it was OK.
I have to admit, I was a "difficult" client. There were so many things I wanted to include, and I am more than happy at the final result. So, let's let you take a picture of the completed screen first and then I'll walk you through the story.

The three-paneled screen measures 51" by 7'. I found a screen that was made of primed canvas, ready to paint. Its purpose was to provide a backdrop for four generations of wedding pictures that were contributed by both sides of new couple. The rolling banner with its curled ends was a nod to my past career as a sign painter. My son had grown up seeing many commercial signs that incorporated ribboned banners.
The idea of a peacock was inspired by the beautifully painted mural on the ceiling of the ballroom where the reception took place . Here's a close-up of the peacock .

The wedding was celebrated at the Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield, New Hampshire.
Here's a picture of the resort's main building and next to it, a close-up from my screen.

It's not often that I get to paint simply this for the pure joy of it, and knowing how and where the screen would be used made this project possibly the best ever reason I can imagine.

That screen was a marvelous vehicle for capturing a memory. Think of the possibilities. Right now, I'm trying to narrow my choices down for faux finish for the back side of the screen.
Give me a call if you think there's a screen in your future.
