Recently, I refinished a brand new vanity. There was absolutely nothing wrong except it lacked the personality my client requested. First, let me tell a little about the room. I was looking for drama here, in big doses. The only thing that could not be changed was the white carrera floor, shower walls and vanity top. My client had purchased a wonderful Persian carpet for the entrance which dictated the deep red background, glazed with a heady shade of merlot and van dyke brown . The ceiling was stippled with a pale silver metallic paint, and I draped the room with hand-painted light grey fabric edged with silver.

Now you have a feel for the surroundings and can appreciate why the standard vanity wasn't working as effectively as it could.

The vanity was primed and painted in a soft grey. I trowelled a mica-infused plaster on the main panels of the front and side and framed them with a charcoal grey glaze to emphasize the depth of the panels. I hand painted draped swags and ornament to compliment the trompe l'oeil painting.
What a wonder paint is!
It got me thinking, and I thought I'd share these make-overs as well. Here's another vanity. No comment on the painting, but it WAS the perfect size for the intended sink.
