We've joined forces with co-ops across the country to celebrate the joys of eating local. Fill out an entry form at the Customer Service Desk, and you may win a fabulous local food item during our daily drawing. At the end of the month we'll draw from all entrants and give away a beautiful book: Eating Local: The cookbook inspired by America's farmers, by Janet Fletcher.

CISAs annual fundraiser will be held in the Arena at the Three County Fairgrounds. Support CISA (Community Involved in Supporting Agriculture) and sample what River Valley Market's  Chef Joseph and his team have created for the event.

NORTHAMPTON ARTS NIGHT OUT
The 2nd Friday of each month, come join us for an artist reception honoring the Quarry Cafe artist of the month.

The next artist's reception will be October 8, from 5-8 pm with Mimi Lempart, ink on paper (Zentangles)
 
Live music,  refreshments served.

Aaron, Dana and Brian Clark combine their talents to operate Clark Brothers Orchards in the Apple Valley of Ashfield. Farming land that has been in their family since great-grandparents Herbert and Bertha Clark purchased it in 1886, the Clarks grow more than 30 apple varieties. RECIPE: QUARRY CAFE BUTTERNUT SQUASH APPLE SOUP
APPLEServes 8-10

INGREDIENTS
5 pounds butternut squash, peeled & diced
1½ pounds tart, firm-fleshed apple such as Granny Smith
1 cinnamon stick
½ gallon vegetable or chicken stock
1½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup maple syrup
1 Tablespoon fresh ginger root, grated
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups half & half (optional)

PREPARATION
Place squash, apples, cinnamon, ginger, and stock into large soup or stock pot. Cook until squash and apples are very soft. Purée in a blender or food processor until smooth. Pass through a strainer, return to pot, and add the remaining ingredients except half & half. Simmer for additional 15 minutes. If using the half & half, add it now and return to a boil. Add salt to taste.
