The Iron Horse Inn |
A few Innkeepers had the opportunity to get together recently at The Iron Horse Inn, in Strasburg, for dinner and a wine tasting from a local winery , Tamanend Winery, which has a tasting room in a building right next to Central Market in downtown Lancaster. They had several offerings of some great wines including a lime wine that was reminiscent of a margarita. Several other wines were offered, including a very sweet desert wine. Our Dinner experience was terrific. Denise and Rick Waller do a fantastic job in serving guests and creating a relaxing atmosphere. We all enjoyed delicious meals. Between us we enjoyed the Crab cakes, Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Rebekah. The crabcakes were excellent, all lump crabmeat and a light seasoning so you could actually taste the crabmeat, which was a generous portion. The Chicken Marsala, a wonderfully sauteed chicken breast with shitake mushrooms and a Marsala wine reduction which was a perfectly delicate and a wonderful compliment to the moist and perfectly sauteed chicken. The Chicken Rebekah was also excellent with a poppyseed cream sauce that was not heavy, but just right. Each entree' was served with mashed potatoes which had the skins mixed in, seasoned just right and mixed vegetables that were served very crisp with light seasoning as if they were steamed, yet also tender, very tasty. Two thumbs up for the Iron Horse Inn. Our B&B guests that are sent there always come back with nothing but high marks on service, food and atmosphere. The Iron Horse Inn, Strasburg, PA has great owners, friendly and helpful staff and skillful chef and kitchen staff. Passport coupons for 10% off of your purchase available through your innkeeper. |

Recipe Corner
In this newsletter we thought we would feature a strawberry recipe as the season is just around the corner! This recipe comes from innkeepers Norm and Sue Kuestner of The Inn At Twin Linden located in Churchtown, PA Strawberry Truffle
1 - 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup cold water 1 - 3 1//2 oz pkg. instant vanilla pudding and pie filling 2 cups whipping cream, or heavy cream, whipped until peaks 1 prepared loaf of pound cake (about 12 oz) cut into 1" cubes 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries (reserve some whole berries for top of cake) 1/2 cup strawberry preserves 1/2 cup slivered almonds (toasted is optional) enough to sprinkle on top of cake
In a large mixing bowl combine milk and water. Add pudding mix and beat until well blended. Chill for 5 minutes. Whip cream until it peaks and fold into chilled mixture. Spoon one-third of pudding mix into a clear glass truffle bowl. Top with half of cake. Top with half of the strawberries. Top with half of the preserves (1//4 cup). Repeat: pudding, cake, strawberries, and preserves. Top with last third of pudding mix. Place whole strawberries (top down) around the edge of the bowl and one in the center. Sprinkle the almonds over the top of the pudding. Refrigerate a few hours. Serves about 16.
