November Dog of the Month

Harper Cedor

My name is Harper. I am a 2 year old American Pitbull Terrier (APBT) and a therapy dog for Gabriel's Angels.

Nathan is one of my many human friends and my registered therapy partner.

Being a Gabriel's Angels therapy dog I know not to jump on my kids, but still get excited to see them. While my rear section wiggles, my tail makes a wide and rapid arc back and forth with my whole body shaking. My head is low and ears back while I sniff the air - waiting for my kids to come hug me!

On our first day, I fell in love with a little girl named Annie.  But Annie didn't want to participate in our activities or even pet me. She stayed in her chair when all the other kids came up close to brush me. I just kept my distance, having a sense we were meant to be friends someday.

On my tenth visit, while Nathan was talking to the kids, Annie looked at me and lightly tapped her knee. Knowing what that meant, I walked over to her.  I do remember pulling a bit on the leash getting over to Annie. I didn't mean to, but sometimes Nathan needs to understand that I know best how to do my job. I sat down next to her desk. Annie wanted to scratch me behind the ears! Oh how I love that spot. She sat there and scratched me the whole time Nathan and the class were talking. At the end of our visit Annie almost tackled me with a big hug and gently whispered "I love you."

That same hug and whisper now happens every time I get to see Annie. Like every child, she wants to give and receive love. Annie just needed time to trust that I was going to keep coming back to see her. As a Gabriel's Angels therapy dog I love my job and will always make the effort to make special moments like this happen.  Why?  Because kids and dogs are like peanut butter and jelly - another of my favorite things!

The Gabriel's Angels Southern Arizona Golf Marathon crew hit 100 holes each at last year's event.
You can do it too!

Enjoy an afternoon of fun with Gabriel's Angels friends and Board members and raise funds that will help provide healing pet therapy to at-risk children throughout Southern Arizona.

2nd Annual 100 Hole Golf Marathon

Saturday, January 21, Noon to 5 PM

Trini Alvarez-El Rio Golf Course,

1700 West Speedway Boulevard, Tucson

For the second year in a row this event will be held in partnership with the First Tee of Tucson program at their facility at El Rio Golf Course.  Once again our golfers and duffers will share a good time and camaraderie as we create fun and  find very easy ways to hit 100 holes.

About Gabriel's Angels

We believe that the BOND between a therapy dog and a child is strong enough to break the cycle of violence.

Without dedicated volunteers and supporters, 'OUR ANGELS' who share our passion in changing the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children with Pet Therapy,
that bond would not be possible!

We sincerely thank all of our special ANGELS!
