Concerning the Status of David C. Bane, Jr.

I have received in today's mail the document (liked below) entitled Renunciation of Ordained Ministry and Declaration of Removal and Release. The document relates to David C. Bane, who now resides in Elizabeth City, NC, within the boundaries of this Diocese.

Since Mr. Bane has renounced the ordained ministry of The Episcopal Church, I cannot give my permission for him to celebrate Eucharist or administer any sacrament, fulfill any role reserved to those ordained in this Church, or to preach or teach in any congregation of this Diocese. It is furthermore inappropriate for any clergy person or congregation of this Diocese to invite him to preach, teach or administer any sacrament in any setting.

General Convention Clergy Day

As the time for General Convention approaches, we invite you to join the Diocese of East Carolina's General Convention Deputation and us for a day of conversation, sharing and listening on Thursday, June 25th at Diocesan House in Kinston.  The schedule will be as follows:

9:30 a.m.     Gather with coffee and donuts
10:00 a.m.    Morning Devotions
10:15 a.m.    Session 1
12:00 p.m.    Lunch (provided)
1:00 p.m.      Session 2

During our time together we will:
  • Talk a little about the polity of The Episcopal Church, its structures and the decision-making process of General Convention in order to explain these to our congregations
  • Listen to one another's hearts as we prepare for convention
  • Explore the theme of "Ubuntu"
  • Share resources for parish education

So that we may have adequate lunch preparation for everyone, please respond to Jean Hussey at jhussey@diocese-eastcarolina.org or 252-522-0885 by Thursday, June 18 to let us know if you can join us.
