Eco-Conscious Italy
Seasonal organic produce. Solar powered energy. Natural spring water. Terra Madre and Slow Food. Italians have always valued the natural features, food traditions and historic landscapes of their country. Their cars have always been smaller, their gas has always been diesel and their mass transit system moves more people with less impact and stress on the environment. Pedestrian zones in which car traffic is prohibited are common and in certain cities and towns like Ferrara preference is given to bicycles. To safeguard the integrity of their food, Italy has strict guidelines and regulations for the production, processing and marketing of foods typical of the region. A guarantee for consumers of the quality, traditions and reputation (yes in Italy food has a reputation) of their country's food.
Italian's have a commitment to all things green, just ask anyone from Umbria, known as Italy's Green Heart. So it's no wonder that in January 2011 Italians decided to say arrivederci to plastic, bags that is. |

Arrivederci Plastic
Italy, once Europe's biggest consumer of plastic bags (using more than 20 billion annually) made a a significant lifestyle change at the beginning of 2011 with a nationwide ban on the production and distribution of non-biodegradable plastic bags. Shoppers in Italy now have only one answer to the proverbial question "Paper or Plastic"? All retailers in Italy must offer customers biodegradable plastic bags or ones made of paper or fabric. According to the Italian environmental group Legambiente swapping paper or fabric for plastic will save Italy approximately 180,000 tons of CO2 emissions. The Italian government, appealing to Italy's iconic sense of style, is promoting the use of reusable bags as a fashionable as well as earth-friendly alternative to plastic. |

Green Fashionistas
Green fashionistas in the States have been spotted at Trader Joe's with their chic reusable TJ bags that make grocery shopping green and stylish. Besides I think the bags from Trader Joe's hold more product, are easier to carry and promote sustainability on all fronts.
I've decided to offset my company's carbon footprint by offering reusable bags from Proforma Distinctive Marketing with homage to Italy for taking the initiative to say arrivederci to plastic. An Italian inspired fabric bag will be available at CosituttiMarketPlace later this summer that promises to "bring Italy home" no matter where you're shopping. We'll also fill this bag with complimentary travel prep information and unique travel product samples for all Italy Taste and Travel groups traveling with us on our Fall Seeing and Savoring Italy Tour.
Look for more information in upcoming newsletters or on our Facebook Fan Page to enter your design for an eco-friendly Italian theme fabric bag to be featured at CosituttiMarketPlace.com
