Here we go again - on our Annual Fall Buying Trip to Northern Italy, Tuscany and Umbria. Visiting old friends and sourcing new products from artisan producers and generational farms to bring all fine things Italian to CosituttiMarketPlace and our retail partners in Michigan and New York.
Many of the towns and villages we visit in Tuscany fly the "Orange Flag" Bandiera Arancione, the symbol given by the Touring Club Italiano (TCI) for itineraries that promote the treasures and traditions of a specific region of Italy. These itineraries are generally outside the tourist flow and are chosen to reflect the authentic cultural traditions of a region with an emphasis on excellent hospitality and sustainable tourism. Many are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and all promise memorable taste and travel experiences.

As remarkable as the last 10 years and 10,000 miles have been taste traveling in Italy, this year may be the most exciting. I just published my book Seeing and Savoring Italy - A Taste and Travel Journey through Northern Italy, Tuscany and Umbria and will be bringing it with me to give to everyone in Italy whose generous hospitality and willingness to help me learn allowed me to discover Italy in a unique and personal way. I will be sourcing Renaissance inspired linens from Pienza in Tuscany that I have been trying to acquire for the last 2 years and again cooking with my friend Rita in the castle kitchens of Gropparello. And my friends from Umbria have consented to start importing their Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Umbria. It's an exclusive bottling that comes from their family farm and is exceptional.
This is pretty exciting for me and when I return you'll be the first to benefit from what I found. And for those of you who have been asking me about A Taste Of Cositutti in Italy, I'll be finalizing the itinerary for our first group travel tour of Northern Italy and Tuscany in the Spring of 2010. Many of the sights we visit fly the prestigious "Orange Flag" and most are on the le strade dei vini e' sapori , regional wine and flavor routes that can allow you to get up close and personal with authentic local food and wines. Travel accommodations include a country house in the Bolognese hills with a breakfast that is the best I have had in Italy. Seeing and savoring Italy can be no better than this. |
