| Pizza at the Friary
Everyone agreed that there could be no more perfect location to experience the authentic flavors of Italian wood fired pizza than on the grounds of the Lourdes Franciscan Friary in Cedar Lake, Indiana.
Originally built in the 1930's the monastery has the classic look of a grand lodge with a screened veranda that was the setting for the Summertime Taste. Surrounded by nature, the grounds and grottoes of Friary are open to the public. There are two paintings from the 1940's by the Italian artist Lazzaro with scenes of Saint Francis and the village of Assisi in the Friary chapel that are hidden treasures. |
Forno de Pizza
The "life of the fire" Italian style was brought to Cositutti Tasters at this year's Summertime Tasting Event by Forno de Pizza who prepared authentic Italian wood fired pizze and some new cross cultural variations (the Banana, Cashew and Dulce de Leche Pizza was a big hit!).
Forno de Pizza is a small artisan company that originated in a dream to design a portable well built, wood-fired oven for those who enjoy cooking and entertaining outdoors. While the idea for wood fired ovens has been around for centuries, no one has achieved the level of portability, efficiency, ease of use and the great nostalgic design of Forno de Pizza.
Hugo Laranja, the owner of Forno de Pizza, has as much of a passion for wood fired ovens as Cositutti does for all Fine Things Italian, so when I became aware of Hugo's company I knew that I wanted him to be part of CosituttiMarketPlace's 2009 Summertime Tasting. The pizze was "buonissimo" and everyone learned that an authentic Italian pizza is thin crusted, made with the freshest and finest of ingredients and cooks in 2-3 minutes!
