Ferrara - My Kind of Town

Castello Estense - FerraraFerrara is one of my favorite towns in Italy for a variety of reasons. On a recent visit I stayed at what must be one of the most enchanting spots in Ferrara, the Hotel Annunziata a small hotel overlooking the Estense Castle.

When touring the Castle, reflective mirrors allow you to see the detailed painted ceilings without getting a stiff neck!

On this trip I was able to get up close and personal with this Northern Italian town in a very special way by staying in Annunziata's contemporary sister hotel, the Prisiani Art Suites

A Stop in Carmignano to Visit One of My Oils and Medici Vines
Tenuta di CapezzanaThe estate farm of Tenuta di Capezzana, located NW of Florence in the village of Carmignano, has a Wine and Culinary Center (more about that later) and an agritourismo that allows you to experience Tuscany up close and personal but for me on this particular trip it was all about the olives.  I was here to visit one of "my oils" and I was not disappointed.

I saw how state of the art machinery combined with traditional methods produce this classic Tuscan oil. There is a one to one relationship between the olive trees on the estate and the oil they produce. One olive tree produces one bottle of oil.  So when you buy a bottle of Tenuta di Capezzana Extra Virgin Olive Oil it's like having a bottle made just for you.  Read More  . . .  in Finding Tuscany

I then spent the rest of the afternoon with the Contini Bonacossi family, current owners of the estate, at the table in the dining room of their villa. Olive oil and wine making at Villa Capezzana goes back to the year 800 with a history of families including the Medici. Beatrice, the owner, had a wonderful meal prepared especially for us. Together with her husband and nephew Leoni, we ate a Tuscan meal fit for a Medici; tasting three of their signature wines as we discussed   . . . All Fine Things Italian!  Bella Toscana!

Think about this oil as you would a fine bottle of Villa di Capezzana DOCG wine.
Both allow you Experience Italy in a very special and personal way.

A bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Italy makes a great holiday gift. Soak up a bit of Italian agricultural history and tradition with a bottle of wonderful oil from a beautiful part of the world and give the gift of healthful living to your family and friends*.   See our complete selection of Extra Virgin Olive Oils including Tenuta di Capezzana and New for 2008 Colli Etruschi in an amphora bottle gift set at   CosituttiMarketPlace .
