Since so many of you have been asking about resveratrol due to its prominence in the news lately, we have some information about it in the Natural News You Can Use section below.

In lieu of a health article this month (I'm on vacation!), I have included a letter from George Carlin that someone sent to me.  I think it is very poignant and a great reminder for us to enjoy August and spend some time doing what really matters!

Vitamin D Sunny Gummies by Rainbow Light
 sunny gummy
Vitamin D is so important to your children's health in so many ways.  It helps build bone by enhancing the utilization of calcium, strenghthens the immune system, and helps with mood and behavioral issues.  Approximately 70% of us living in the north are vitamin D deficient.  Kids will love this naturally flavored "treat" sweetened with organic cane sugar.  Available in 400 IU or 1000 IU serving sizes.
Omega Swirl by Barlean'somega swirl

Kids will love this great tasting strawberry banana flax supplement delivering omega-3, 6, & 9 oils in a 3.5:1:1 ratio!  Put it right on their finger and tell them its candy. Sweetened with xylitiol, it avoids adding extra sugars to the diet while tasting like a treat.  Can also be used in smoothies, in yogurt, or as a topping for fruit.

Certified Organic Acai Berry Gel Caps by Gaia

gaia acai
Acai berry is a berry from a palm tree prevalent in northern South America.  People use it for osteoarthritis, cholesterol management, weight loss, detoxification, and anti-aging.  The berry has been used in South America for years, eaten raw and also in juice form.  It is used commercially in beverages, ice cream, jelly and liqueurs.  The benefits of acai come from its high ORAC value, making it a potent antioxidant.

Natural News You Can Use:
The Scoop on Resveratrol

You have probably heard about resveratrol recently through Dr. Oz or in the news.  Resveratrol is a component of red wine, red grape skins, purple grape juice, mulberries and, in smaller amounts, in peanuts.

Resveratrol is being touted for its ability to prevent hardening of the arteries, decrease LDL (the "bad cholesterol"), increase HDL (the "good"), prevent cancer and anti-aging.  Its anti-inflammatory effects are thought to be greater than that of NSAIDs, aspirin or ibuprofen.  Preliminary research has shown that it inhibits tumor growth.  Resveratrol also appears to inhibit replication of the herpes simplex virus.

Since resveratrol may have the same effect as anti-platelet drugs, it is recommended  that you avoid taking both at the same time.  Resveratrol may be very mildly estrogenic in its activity and while the estrogenic activity of resveratrol appears to be very low , it is best to avoid resveratrol if you have estrogen sensitive cancer/conditions.  These would include breast or ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids.  It may also inhibit certain enzymes in the liver that metabolize drugs that use that pathway.  These include, but are not limited to, Mevacor, Nicoral, Sporanox, Allegra, & Halcion.

georgecarFeature Article:  A Wonderful Message from George Carlin

Seeing George Carlin perform and reading this heartfelt message from him were two totally different experiences.  I think he hits the nail on the head!  A great reminder to enjoy what's left of summer!

~The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.  We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less.  We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.  We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.  We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.  We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.  We've added years to life but not life to years.  We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.  We conquered outer space but not inner space.  We've done larger things but not better things.  We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.  We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.  We write more, but learn less.  We plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait.  We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.  These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.  These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.  It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.  A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or just to hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.  Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.  Remember to say "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it.  A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.  Give time to love, give time to speak!  Give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.  AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:  Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take our breath away.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!  It's not over yet!
