"One Size Fits One" Recycled and Reused Fabrics, Beads, Buttons, Braids, Acrylic Paint, Machine Quilted 50"x44"
This new quilt will be exhibited in a show at the DeSaisset Museum at the University of Santa Clara. I used mostly recycled designer fabrics as well as acrylic paint and embellishing with buttons and beads. I love the title, because it reminds me that only I can fill my own shoes or my own outfit, only I can do the work I'm here to do in my own unique way. The shape of this quilt is fairly straight and perpendicular while the shape inside is rather like a curvy vase holding flowers and at the same time resembling the curves of a woman's body.

SURRENDER At this moment, I let go of all resistance. I allow my life to unfold in its own unique way. I release all judgments of good, bad right or wrong. I give my life to the present moment. I surrender to the eternal NOW. I forgive the little things that are in the way of my happiness and well being. I let go of fear and I give myself to love. I surrender to the opening of my heart center. 11x35" painted art quilt If you would like purchasing information for this piece, please click here. |
"S&P Fat Bakers" (37"x51") This is a quilt I made in 1980 and was a part of my very first one person show at the DeSaisset Museum on the campus of the University of Santa Clara in 1981. I made a series of 12 of these pieces based on images of my salt and pepper shaker collection. I also exhibited 12 water color paintings of the same subject. Years ago, I had hundreds of different salt and pepper shakers, inspired by my grandmother and aunt who both collected them. In the quilts I combined the use of photographic images of the shakers as well as those from my imagination. I appliqued the fabric pieces onto canvas and then used fabric backing, but no batting in between. At that time I used grommets as hanging devices as I had yet to find out about sewing a sleeve onto the back with a wooden slat inserted, as I do with my quilts now. I'm beginning work on a series of drawings on the theme of trees and home, both of which are close to my heart. I've been uploading images to and having them printed large on fabric to make into quilts. I also plan to use these homey images on floor cloths for the home. I'm so excited to be doing the most satisfying work! |
