Boy and Girl Elves

Boy and Girl Elves

44"x56" 2010

Puzzle Interchange technique, fabric, thread, machine appliqu, machine quilted

"Boy and Girl Elves" is one of my series of "The Quilted Portrait" or "puzzle interchange machine appliqu" quilts.  I designed the elves so that one pattern is a boy elf with a star and the other one is a girl elf with a moon. This piece would look great in a children's room or on a hospital wall.  The materials and techniques are machine appliqud fabric, thread and paint.  I chose soothing soft fabric colors and lots of varied colored thread.  The satin stitch of the machine appliqu gives another dimension of color and texture to the surface along with playful, loose threads dancing across the quilt.

JOY
 JOY
Joy is different from happiness because joy is our natural state.  As a spiritual human being I am joyful and anything else is just obstructing and casting a shadow on my joy.  Happiness is wonderful, but is usually the result of some outside influence. "Something" makes me happy; rather than "I am joyful" because it is my nature.  Healing is most important in my life because it is one thing I can control-I can grow by letting go of anything that comes between me and my JOY.                                                                                         11"x35" painted art quilt

Jane

Jane Przybysz has recently resigned from the directorship of the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles after a successful 12 years of raising community awareness of Textiles and their meaning in our lives. Jane has been an inspirational energy behind growing and transforming the museum into a powerful force promoting fiber as a major art form in the world and in the minds of appreciators and collectors.  She is a real supporter and encourager of women in general and of women in the arts in particular.  I will miss her and I wish her all the best in her new position as Executive Director of the McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina
