"Yes Dress", 43"x58" 2006, private collection
Allowing With this art quilt, "Yes Dress," I am saying "yes" to life. I am saying "Yes to myself and allowing my life to unfold in a new, more creative way. Instead of relying on old patterns, I am following the yellow brick road. I am inspired to stay present, listen to my guidance, let go of judgment and have some fun! I am letting go of resistance to all the good coming my way and allowing myself to recognize and recieve my abundance. I am keeping an eye on the saboteur in me and catching those gremlins that get in my way and putting them in the garbage can where they belong! Once they are out of the way, I can get back to allowing the flow of creativity and life to give me everything I need! "Yes Dress" is fabric, acrylic paint, buttons, beads, polymer clay, machine applique, machine quilted by Jenny Michael. This piece has happily found its way into the collection of someone who was inspired to say "Yes" to herself, too.
"Fun I love, but too much fun is of all things the
most loathsome. Mirth is better than fun, and happiness is better than
mirth."
- William Blake (1757-1827) English Poet and Artist mirth: Gladness and gaiety, especially when expressed by laughter.

Artist of the Month Meg Cox has created this beautiful, very readable resource book for anyone interested in any aspect of quilting, from the history of art quilts and traditional quilts, to technical information, to teachers and tools and how-to projects. I showed it to some of my very creative friends and they all said that they would only need this one book to find all the answers.
Meg profiles many of the leading quilters and talks about the vast number of women who make up this huge subculture of fabric lovers, sewing enthusiasts, and those who, once they start making quilts, just can't stop. With 600 pages, this book provides very useful and enjoyable reading for the seasoned quilter or the beginner. It is published by Workman Publishing.
Meg Cox is the Vice President of the board of directors of the Alliance for American Quilts. She was a staff writer for the Wall Street Journal for 17 years, makes quilts and lives in Princeton, New Jersy with her husband and son.
