Today at the Dog House
Greetings from the Dog House!
We are excited to announce that we're developing an amazing new component of our summer camp: GIRLS ROCK Colorado. Girls (11-17) will spend time learning instruments, then writing and rehearsing original music. Extra activities will focus on encouraging girls to express themselves through music, gain confidence on a variety of instruments, and tap into their leadership potential, in a pro-girl-power environment.
We've brought together a powerhouse of women rock musicians to provide both instruction and role-modeling for this program: Angie Stevens, voted Denver's Best Singer/Songwriter by both the editors and fans of Westword; Susan Phelan, bass player with Angie Stevens and Vibes on Velvet; and Jen Gilleran, drummer and percussionist with Gregory Alan Isakov and with him has supported bands like the Cowboy Junkies, Ani DiFranco, the Indigo Girls and Brandi Carlile.
We will run a pilot version of this program August 2-6 - please help us spread the word to parents of girls who are interested in music (but perhaps a little shy about attended our regular summer camp).
Speaking of summer camp, please check out this amazing blog post describing a session of our teen camp at Mile High Mamas: "Here is my proof that Dog House Music was one of the best things to happen to Ryley's musical education: When he took the stage with his band, The Legendary Jets, and played the first note on his guitar? I totally cried."
Next up, some congratulations are in order to Savoy, for their 2010 Westword music showcase award for best electronic artist; 3OH!3 for their album release; to Matt Morris for his first mainstream video release; and to Stellar Atlas, BassLine and Watch for Wildlife for being featured among Boulder's top teen bands in the Daily Camera!
Hope you are enjoying the beautiful Colorado summer as much as we are!
