Today at the Dog House
Dear DHM Family,
We're happy to report that the summer is in full swing, and great things are happening at Dog House!
First, we're thrilled to be hosting the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus at DHM on August 10. We'll be closing down the whole block for our First Annual DHM Summer Block Party - in addition to the bus, we'll have teen and adult bands playing all day, including our friends Lost Point, 2007 "Best Band in Denver". We'll keep you posted as we nail down the other bands, but please put this free, fun event on your calendars now! (If you have a business and would like to get involved in this event, please call us!)
Earlier this month, several DHM teen bands played a special show at the Children's Hospital in Denver, for patients and their families - that's Bassline in the photo above. The kids really seemed to enjoy it (as they did last year), so we're looking at ideas for providing lessons in the hospital itself - please let us know if you'd like to get involved.
We're also looking for a lawyer to assist us with the formation of a non-profit (501(c)3) entity, to enable us to pursue more ways of bringing music to the community, and especailly to at-risk kids/teens. We can offer studio time in return, OR camp sessions - we'd appreciate it if you could pass this info along to anyone who might fit the bill.
Other news: our summer session of Adult Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp has been completed, and the adult band is prepping for their final show July 31 (following the teen band show at the Boulder Outlook). Our other adult-camp-formed band, Steve & the Dirty Little Spoons, was recently one of 20 bands selected for the KYGO Colgate Country Music Showdown in late June - great work! We'd also like to congratulate teen camper and intern Rudy Weimer (also of The Stellar Atlas), for being one 84 high school students across the country chosen for GRAMMY camp, a residential residential summer music camp bringing the students into contact with GRAMMYAward-winning and -nominated musicians.
We'd like to thank our great summer teaching and admin staff for their hard work, which was also recognized by a camp parent in this recent blog post - please check it out. Despite the challenges of the first half of the summer, everyone is having fun and making music. (Also, you might like to check out this 'Men We Love' feature in the Boulder Women's Magazine.)
Please have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
Thanks Peace Gary |
