You will receive a medallion for your pet as well. Have your friends bring their pets as well. If you absolutely cannot bring your pet, bring one picture. Rock U. Children's Ministry
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanted to give you a few dates to put on your calendars and some reminders about what we have to offer at St. Andrew's for your children ages 18 months - 5th Grade. Classes are from 9:15-10:15 a.m.
Class/Teachers Toddlers & 2's - Room 308/Kristin Hearn & Christine Liberatore
Preschool/Pre-K - Room 307/Shelly Bauer & Nikki Adams
K-1st Grade - Room 303/Christina Mortenson & Lisa Hardin
2nd - 3rd Grade - Room 304/5/Anne Harland & Glenn Smith
4th-5th Grade - Room 306/Chelsea Egmon & Darrel Borden & Wade Egmon
Oversight & Helping where needed--Shannon Campbell & Susan Bolin
Special Requests * Please do not allow your child to bring toys/games/electronics/dolls, etc to Rock U or God Rocks. We cannot be responsible for these items and they are a distraction for the class. A rule of thumb, if it is not allowed at school, please do not bring it to Christian Education either.
*We need subs! If you are willing to offer your services as a substitute for either Rock U (Christian education at 9:15) or God Rocks! (Children's worship at 10:30), please let us know - we will train you :) Thank you all for sharing your wonderful children with us! We look forward to a great year and it's because of all of you that we are able to offer this ministry to all of our children.
| All Saints Day - Sunday, November 7th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each year, the Church remembers on November 1st those who followed Christ, All Saints Day. We will observe All Saints on Sunday, 11/7, this year. The evening before All Saints Day is All Hallows Eve or, as you know it Halloween. Yes, Halloween derives from a Church service. The day after All Saints Day, November 2nd, is All Souls Day where we remember those who have died. Our All Saints Service on 11/7 will combine all three days. We will remember those who have died who are special to us. We also will light candles for those who have gone, before us, to a Greater Life. To prepare for All Saints, please give us those names of loved ones you wish remembered by name in the prayers. See you on the 7th.

Free Money!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Back in 2008, we initiated a Capital Campaign to pay off the Quin Loan which helped build our beautiful family life center. For this campaign, the Quin Foundation gave us a 2 for 1 offer of forgiving 2 dollars for every 1 dollar repaid of the loan. Many of you signed up to help us tackle this debt and gain free money.
Total pledges raised for the campaign were $191,246.67 which will pay off the $421,829.25 Quin loan! This is a 3 year campaign and we will be ending our second year soon. For this reason I wanted to give you an update on how we were doing.
To date, we have collected $63,748.67 of the pledges. At 33% of the pledges we are a bit behind, we should end of this year at 66%. Many families pay their capital campaign pledge at the end of each calendar year so we anticipate staying on course. If you have fallen behind, please consider jumping back on the "free money" band wagon! If you are new to St. Andrews and want to jump on the "free money" band wagon - we would love to have you!
The Quin Capital Campaign and the 2 for 1 offer will end December 2011. We can do it St. Andrews! If you have questions about the Quin Capital Campaign please contact me or any vestry member.
| Vestry News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9/21/10 Vestry Meeting Approved that the following slate of candidates - Rebecca Maxwell and Joe Donaldson- be accepted for the 2010 Vestry Election and, be it further resolved, that they be elected by acclamation and no parish election held (due to the fact we have 6 vacancies coming up). Approved to provisionally accept Mark Farnie (the vestry had not heard back from him prior to the meeting) for the 2010 Vestry Election by acclamation and no parish election held. Approved to reduce the number of Vestry positions from fifteen (15) to twelve (12) effective 1/25/2011. Approved the following Stewardship Statement: We know that God Passionately loves us and all creation. We believe that the generous use of our gifts and resources is a faithful response to God's love and helps us to overcome our fear of scarcity. Inspired by God's abundant gifts and prayerful reflection, we commit ourselves to lead by example; to share our vision of stewardship; to offer our special talents and gifts to the glory of God; to talk openly about money and ministry; to examine our individual pledge with respect to proportional giving; and to increase or pledge by at least 1 % of our income per year, working toward the tithe (10%) as a standard of our giving. We invite you to join us in joyfully making this commitment. Vestry approved the payment of $9,000.00 (approximately 20% increase to 2010) of the proposed 2011 Missionary Asking of $28,246. Approved the appointment of Bobby Nicholls as Council Representative for 2011-2014. Approved to allow Cary McDonald the opportunity to form a team to determine the feasibility of a 2011 Casino Night fund raiser. Approved Jennifer Neitzey to serve as Eucharistic Minister.

| New Adult Class - Old Testament
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning October 17, Fr. Joe's class will begin a 24-week course on the Old Testament.
The DVD lectures are by Professor Amy Jill Levine, PhD, of Vanderbilt University Divinity School. This course is a scholarly introduction to how the Hebrew Bible was produced over a period of perhaps eight centuries, what it meant to the writers and editors over this long birth, and what meanings it may have to modern Christians and Jews.
The cost for the 24 classes is $15.00, a real bargin considering what a Graduate School course costs. The home work will be reading in the Old Testament. |
