Malawi Pilgrimage Presentation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am so glad to be back in Pearland after my exciting and inspiring journey to Malawi. My pilgrimage was a challenging one but also one of hope and inspiration especially the experience of visiting the churches, schools and projects of the Diocese of Southern Malawi. I am very excited to have the opportunity to share just a taste of this experience with all of you this coming Sunday, August 22nd at both the 8 and 10:30 worship services.
Thank you to all of you who financially supported my trip, were praying for me, following my blog ( http://malawipilgrimage.wordpress.com), and who want to find out more about this wonderful country and the beautiful people I met there.
Vestry News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VESTRY DISCERNMENT LUNCHEON Our church is served by an amazing group of parishioners who serve as members of the Vestry. These parishoners love St. Andrews and what to serve the congregation by guiding St. Andrews towards its mission and vision. If you are interested in finding out more on how to serve the church as a Vestry member please attend the Vestry Discernment Luncheon on Sunday, August 29th, 2010, at noon, at the Rectory (Father Jim+'s House). The purpose of the luncheon is to inform those interested about the role the Vestry plays in the Church. Attendance at the luncheon is a requirement for serving on the Vestry. Attendees will be given time to pray, reflect, and seek God's direction before committing to this important post.

What is your Shape?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 301- S.H.A.P.E.D. for ministry
Where do I fit in? Identifying your spiritual gifts is the best way to determine how you can best serve God and the members of St. Andrews. God shaped you for a purpose and the secret of knowing God's purpose for your life, is to understand who God made you to be. In 301, a variety of self-inventories will be utilized to explore personal factors that have been combined to SHAPE the real you. After identifying your unique traits and reviewing your experiences, the ministry that God has designed you for will become clear. Please join the Daughters of the King in Room 107, 10 am - noon, Saturday, September 11, 2010, as Christine Liberatore leads us in defining where you can use your spiritual gifts and abilities in the area of your heart's desire and in a way that best expresses your personality and experiences. All parishioners are welcome. To ensure sufficient materials are available, call Jeanette at 281.485.9850 of your plans to attend. Contact Jeanette Cooper - jcooper25@sbcglobal.net
Free Infant Car Seat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We have a Graco Snug Ride infant car seat and two bases to give away. It has never been in a crash, and does not expire until Dec. 2012. It is black and a nice smoky purple color (suitable for either a boy or girl). The plastic parts are silver. With the exception of some fraying at the top of the seat pad where the pad fits around the shell (which does not interfere with the baby's comfort due to the location), it is in great condition. (I am pretty sure a new seat pad can be ordered from Graco's website.) The seat pad is machine washable. We have all the original parts. If you are interested or have more questions, please feel free to call me at 713-436-9364. Thanks, Shelley Waguespack

New Adult Class - Marriage
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Standing at the altar, we all had a picture of what our marriage would
look like. The problem is this picture of marriage results in
expectations that we unload on our spouse. The weight of these
expectations will rob your marriage of love and joy. As a spouse you
never feel like you measure up and you never feel like you are good
enough.
So what are you to do with your expectations? You can't
deny them, because most expectations started out as God-given desires.
In this series, Andy Stanley explains that you must learn to transform
your expectations and look to God if you are to experience marriage as
it was designed. DVD and discussion. Jim+ will facilitate. Christine will keep him honest!
Starts, Sunday October 3rd for 6 weeks $2
New Adult Class - Old Testament
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning October 17, Fr. Joe's class will begin a 24-week course on the Old Testament.
The DVD lectures are by Professor Amy Jill Levine, PhD, of Vanderbilt University Divinity School. This course is a scholarly introduction to how the Hebrew Bible was produced over a period of perhaps eight centuries, what it meant to the writers and editors over this long birth, and what meanings it may have to modern Christians and Jews.
The cost for the 24 classes is $15.00, a real bargin considering what a Graduate School course costs. The home work will be reading in the Old Testament. |
Renew your Kroger Card and Support St.Andrew's
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ YOU MUST RENEW YOUR CARD NOW OR IT WILL NOT BE VALID.
Support St. Andrew's through your shopping at Kroger. Click this link.
We earned over $2,500 by linking our Kroger Cards to St. Andrew's. A percentage of each purchase went to fund our ministries. Each year, we must relink our Kroger Card. We will start earning money on July 1st only if we relink our cards.
Print the attached and take it to your Kroger when you shop next and have the cashier link your card with St. Andrew's. The instructions are on the flyer. You only need to link it once and you are done for the year!
Thank you for supporting St. Andrew's in this way. |
