Christian Helping Hands

Resolutions for Our Year of Service

Christianity is practiced. These are traits of the followers of Jesus. God encourages our practice of them and God will help us to do them. Make these the foundation of your Year of Service. (from sermon 2/14/10)

Avoid judgment of others unlike me. Find out who they are and what they yearn for
James 2:1-6

Die to live. Take care of Jesus' business with others outside family and church. God will take care of you.
Luke 9:23-25

Sow generously. Give of your time, talent and treasure to make the Gospel a reality in the lives of others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Don't take it with you, send it ahead. Invest in eternity. It is your ultimate destiny.
Matthew 6:19-24

Embrace variety, Live in unity. Work together to be the Body of Christ for a broken world using your unique gifts, given by God.
1 Corinthians 12:4-12

Year of Service Update
#11
June 4, 2010

Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,

I am lucky enough to be leaving this morning (6 a.m. - before my normal wake up time) for my third workcamp experience with the youth group from St. Andrew's. We're on our way to Greeley, Colorado where we will spend the week painting, building, and fixing parts of homes for people who are not able or can not afford to do so themselves.

It is an amazing experience to watch our youth learn to build, paint and repair homes as they learn more about God and have an opportunity to meet people from other parts of the country - both other workcampers and the residents of the homes we work on.

Each year when we return we tell stories during worship and try and impart just a small piece of that experience to the rest of the congregation. I'll tell you firsthand, that's tough to do. The emotions and feelings we experience are not easily translated and passed along in a quick statement or anecdote in the allotted time during the worship service. So, I encourage you to seek out some of the 39 workcampers after we return and ask them a little bit about camp. Hopefully it will inspire your Year of Service.

Mothers of Multiples Donations

YoS Baby Items

Angela Smith took this picture of items gathered after her mothers of multiples group had their garage sale at Sagemont Church.  They have a buy and sell twice a year and she is the donations chairmom.  This time they donated all the leftovers to Sagemont Church's needy family program.  The Mother's of Multiples Group also hold drives and donations for various programs helping out Children's Protective Service, hospitals, hunger programs, domestic violence centers, crisis pregnancy, etc.  throughout the year.
  Service in Action

  • Jacob Clendening made notes for the homeless for the bags made at church last month.
  • Roxie Woodward gave blood for the third time this year.
  • Juliana Cedeno gave a bag of boy's clothing to a pregnant mom who needed some new clothes for her 2 year old son.

 Catch That Pool!

YoS Plastic Pool

Cary McDonald and Bettie Dru Bowman came to the rescue of a woman trying to get a plastic pool home by holding it on the top of her car as she droive down the road. The pool, unfortunately, had other ideas and blew off the top of the car. Cary and Bettie Dru turned their van around and helped out by loading the pool into their van and following the woman home so the pool and woman could arrive home safely.

Homeless Bags Much Appreciated

The 100 care packages fopr the homeless which our St. Andrew's family put together have all been picked up and distributed. Wonderful stories have come back from the people delivering these much appreciated bags.

During the first week we were handing out the bags, Linda Carrette took several and passed them out under the Pierce Elevated. She said the people there were very appreciative and they especially loved receiving the socks!!

Thanks again to Jennifer Sitton, Judy Bettencourt, and Bethany and Joe Donaldson for all their work to get this ministry started at St. Andrew's.

Thank you also to all of you who picked up the bags and delivered them to those in need!
