Year of Service Update 3/26/2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,
Thank you for all of your Year of Service Reports.  I hope all of you had a wonderful Spring Break.
I am continually impressed with the creative ways to serve which I see coming in each week through your reports. I believe many of you were already serving and may have not realized how important your service is to others. My hope for this Year of Service is that your eyes will open not only to new ways to serve but also to see what an impact your time and effort really can have on our community.
Remember, send in those pictures and keep on serving :)
Joy Hargett and her husband Ken recently bought about $60 worth of garden soil for her mom.  When she tried to pay them for it, they asked her to donate the money to a charity instead - for a man from her community who has breast cancer and has limited insurance funds. She did, along with her own generous donation.
One member of our congregation gave a package of tuna to a homeless man on Scarsdale.
Christine Liberatore gave a glucose meter and Diabetes information for free to an undocumented alien.
Myrna and Larry Harbuck met a couple, Dennis and Dulce Wolfe, in Belize that live there in San Pedro. Dulce is suffering from a respiratory ailment. They contributed to a fund that is paying Dulce's way to Merida, Mexico to have diagnostics done and hopefully treat and cure her.
Thursday, March 18th a group of 9 from the youth program at St. Andrew's took time out of their Spring Break to create and deliver 45 sack lunches to the homeless population around Houston's Medical Center. Partnering with Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church's "Way Station" Program, we were able to deliver every lunch.
Now Entering the Mission Field
Did you see our new mission signs while leaving then parking lots? To emphasize our Year of Service, we are reminding ourselves that our mission is in the community, the region, the country and the world (see Acts 1:8). Let us know about your mission work big and small.
Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Cooler Person?
Texas Episcopal Disaster Relief and Development is looking for care providers from local churches who will assist with water in times of disaster within the Diocese of Texas. Go to this site to see the Cooler People Position Description and Nomination form.
Help us spread the word about acts of service in which you participate. Send your reports (AND PICTURES) to
debbie@standrewspearland.org.
