Christian Helping Hands

Resolutions for Our Year of Service

Christianity is practiced. These are traits of the followers of Jesus. God encourages our practice of them and God will help us to do them. Make these the foundation of your Year of Service. (from sermon 2/14/10)

Avoid judgment of others unlike me. Find out who they are and what they yearn for
James 2:1-6

Die to live. Take care of Jesus' business with others outside family and church. God will take care of you.
Luke 9:23-25

Sow generously. Give of your time, talent and treasure to make the Gospel a reality in the lives of others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Don't take it with you, send it ahead. Invest in eternity. It is your ultimate destiny.
Matthew 6:19-24

Embrace variety, Live in unity. Work together to be the Body of Christ for a broken world using your unique gifts, given by God.
1 Corinthians 12:4-12

Year of Service Update
#6
March 12, 2010

Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,

Thank you for all of your Year of Service Reports. Our congregation has really stepped up to the plate and is serving in so many ways. All of these acts of service are inspiring people you know and some you have never met. Word of our Year of Service has gotten out and we've had several inquiries about what we are doing, so keep up the good work!

Our biggest need continues to be PICTURES!!  Please continue to provide your stories of service but also don't forget the pictures!! Everyone would love to see the results of the stories as well as read about them.
YoS Double Cheeseburger $5 Goes a Long Way

On her lunch break this past week, Nikki Adams saw a homeless man holding a sign that said he was hungry. She stopped and gave him $5. The rest of this is Nikki's account of what happened next:

The look on his face was priceless.  He looked up at the Burger King across the street and said "Do you know this will buy 4 double cheeseburgers?" It kind of made my day...
Service Reports

  • Brett Cordes took on the position of "Assistant-to-the-Assistant" T-Ball Coach
  • Chris Wells held an after-school movie event with food and drinks & bought food for someone at a drive through.

Prayers from Our Rock U Teachers

We have an amazing Rock U (Children's Christian Education) Team and at a recent meeting, I asked them to write down what prayers they would like for their classes. Here are a few of those prayers:

  • I pray that kids take in what they learn and apply to their daily living and situations.
  • Pray for more kids to come
  • Pray that (our class) has fun in their classes and they always know they have someone to talk to if needed.
  • Pray for the wisdom to teach "my" class
  • Pray for the Sunday School Teachers, their patience and willingness to continue teaching
  • I pray for participation (we have the same 4 kids almost every Sunday)
  • Please pray that we are able to communicate to the kids in a way that means something to them and they will remember.
and I would like to add my prayer of thanksgiving for such a dedicated team to serve our children.
  Pearland Little League
Collects Equipment to Share

 YoS Bball Equip Collection
This past week was Opening Day for Pearland Little League and under the direction of Jeff Bettencourt, they collected used baseball equipment to give to Little Leagues in need.  This equipment will be distributed to less fortunate leagues in the Houston Area. There is also a chance that some of the equipment collected may be sent to Poland by Little League International who is trying to get a Little League program started there.

Christine Lusk, who worked a shift collecting the equipment, said it was a wonderful event. Way to go Pearland Little League!!
