~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Twisting the Truth Unraveling the Lies That Twist Our Lives This six week study exposes four destructive and all-too-prevalent lies about authority, pain, sex, and sin. They're deceptions powerful enough to ruin our relationships, our lives, even our eternities-but only if we let them. Twisting the Truth untwists the lies that can drag us down. With his gift for straight, to-the-heart communication, Andy Stanley helps us exchange falsehoods for truths that can turn our lives completely around.
Wednesdays Starting 3/24 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Bring your dinner (or not) Room 102 Jim Liberatore: Facilitator RSVP a place or childcare here
| Campaign of Kindness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pet Food Drive, Sunday, March 14 We will be collecting dog food and cat food for the Pearland Animal Shelter. They will accept all types of food but they prefer the premium brands such as Iams, Pro Plan, etc.
New Shoes Sunday, March 21 We will be collecting all sizes of children's shoes for DePelchin's Children's Center.
Teddy Bear Sunday was a huge success!! Last week we collected stuffed animals for the children at Shriner's Children's Hospital in Houston. We collected a total of 132 stuffed animals!! Thank you to Angela Smith and Chris Wells for taking pictures, counting and delivering the animals. Bring your donations each week throughout Lent for our Campaign of Kindness. On Sunday mornings, please keep the items with you in the pews until you come forward to receive communion. Children in God Rocks! may bring their donations in when they join the main worship service at communion. Thank you all for making our annual Campaign of Kindness a blessing for this year's recipients.
Thank you! Debbie

Year of Service ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Service Reports Larry Musick has taken over the task of picking up food from local grocery stores to deliver to Christian Helping Hands. Chris Wells is volunteering at Ronald McDonald House and has started an after school basketball program. Karli Clements shared her last 2 pieces of gum with her friends. The Crawford family has provided food for the sick, given a Bible to a car salesman, and performed trumpet for President's Day. Jesse Bowman trimmed the hedge at church and sat with the sick. Benjamin Nye and Cody Magee visited the Colonial Assisted Living Center. While there, they visited with residents and helped them build bird houses. Help in a Time of Sadness: A 19 year old friend of Katie Sampson was hit and killed by a metro train recently. The family had extremely limited financial resources. The Sampson family provided the family with food during their time of need and helped raise money for the family for the funeral and other expenses. Pearland Little League Reaches Out: Jeff Bettencourt is heading up an effort by Pearland Little League in which they will be collecting used baseball equipment during their Opening Day festivities. This equipment will be distributed to less fortunate leagues in the Houston Area. There is also a chance that some of the equipment collected may be sent to Poland by Little League International who is trying to get a Little League program started there. Basket Raffle for Haiti Relief: St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital recently had a Valentine's Day Basket Raffle, in which beautiful decorated baskets with items inside would be raffled and proceeds would go to Haiti relief through the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. Joy Hargett and her departments put together 2 baskets for donation. Employees and visitors could buy raffle tickets for $1.00 each. There were about 30 baskets and over $7000 in raffle tickets were purchased, with all proceeds going to Haiti relief. Serving Others and Rescuing Squirrels: The Harbuck family is off to a great start with our Year of Service. They report the following acts of service that I know will inspire us all: Delivered kolaches to the Pearland Fire Department and EMS. Larry took breakfast to the toll booth operator. Myrna rescued 4 baby squirrels from a tree being removed from a neighbor's yard. Lauren and Kaiti baked cookies for the Greeters at St. Andrew's to give to our visitors. 18+ Gallons of Blood Donated!: Father Jim+ just started toward his 19th gallon of blood donated. So far he has donated 145 times!! Others Helping Us: In a case of having the tables turned on us, we have a report of an act of service being done for one of our parishioners. Ryan Harbuck was waiting on a woman at CiCi's and their discussion came around to the fact that he is planning on getting his EMT certification and an Associate's Degree in Nursing. After they talked, she gave him a tip and said to use it towards his goals. After she left, he looked and realized she had given him $100! Playing Taps in Honor of Veterans: Bill Crawford gives of his talents by providing live trumpet music for the funerals of veterans so the families do not have to used recorded music. He is associated with a group called Bugles Across America.
Share Your Acts of Service Help us spread the word about acts of service in which you participate. Send your reports (AND PICTURES) to debbie@standrewspearland.org. Debbie Allensworth |
| St. Andrew's Children's Project for Haiti (and Chile) Relief
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just wanted to take a moment to explain what our Children's (and 6th & 7th Grade) Christian Education classes (Toddlers - 7th Grade) are participating in during Lent. These classes are using a curriculum from Heifer International and are learning all about needs around the world and how Heifer Int. is helping provide animals to families in need to help them have a sustainable way of making a living.
Each class has chosen an animal to raise money to purchase and our money will specifically go to help people in earthquake ravaged areas of Haiti and possibly Chile.
Each child was given a small box and a calendar to take home. Each day for the next 4 weeks, there is an activity found in the calendar for the family and it tells you how many coins you should put in the small collection box for that day. We will be collecting these boxes on Easter Sunday and will report back to the congregation how many and what types of animals the money goes to purchase.
If your child was not in class this past week, they will receive their box the next time they are in Sunday School.
Please write your child's name on the box so when we collect the money, we will be able to credit the money to their class for the purchase of their chosen animal.
Thank you all so much for your support of our Year of Service!
