Christian Helping Hands

Resolutions for Our Year of Service

Christianity is practiced. These are traits of the followers of Jesus. God encourages our practice of them and God will help us to do them. Make these the foundation of your Year of Service. (from sermon 2/14/10)

Avoid judgment of others unlike me. Find out who they are and what they yearn for
James 2:1-6

Die to live. Take care of Jesus' business with others outside family and church. God will take care of you.
Luke 9:23-25

Sow generously. Give of your time, talent and treasure to make the Gospel a reality in the lives of others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Don't take it with you, send it ahead. Invest in eternity. It is your ultimate destiny.
Matthew 6:19-24

Embrace variety, Live in unity. Work together to be the Body of Christ for a broken world using your unique gifts, given by God.
1 Corinthians 12:4-12

Year of Service Update
#5
March 5, 2010

Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,

This past week was the first time we have had our Year of Service Report slips in the pews for people to fill out and I was amazed at the number of reports coming in. Please bear with me as I need to spread some of these out in order to make sure all get covered. Each and every one is so important to the people who are served that I want to make sure I do justice to them all.

Our biggest need right now is for PICTURES!!  Please continue to provide your stories of service but also don't forget the pictures!! Everyone would love to see the results of the stories as well as read about them.
Heifer Logo St. Andrew's Rock U Children's Classes Raising Funds for Earthquake Relief

St. Andrew's Children and Youth Classes (Toddlers - 7th Grade) are participating in a curriculum from Heifer International and are learning all about needs around the world and how Heifer Int. is helping provide animals to families in need to help them have a sustainable way of making a living.

Each class has chosen an animal to raise money to purchase and our money will specifically go to help people in earthquake ravaged areas of Haiti and possibly Chile.

Each child was given a small box and a calendar to take home. Each day for the next 4 weeks, there is an activity found in the calendar for the family and it tells you how many coins you should put in the small collection box for that day. We will be collecting these boxes on Easter Sunday and will report back to the congregation how many and what types of animals the money goes to purchase.

Service Reports

  • The Crawford family has provided food for the sick, given a Bible to a car salesman, and performed trumpet for President's Day.

Building Birdhouses and Making Friends

Benjamin Nye and Cody Magee visited the Colonial Assisted Living Center. While there, they visited with residents and helped them build bird houses.

Help in a Time of Sadness

A 19 year old friend of Katie Sampson was hit and killed by a metro train recently. The family had extremely limited financial resources. The Sampson family provided the family with food during their time of need and helped raise money for the family for the funeral and other expenses.
  Pearland Little League
Reaches Out

 YoS Baseball Equipment
Jeff Bettencourt is heading up an effort by Pearland Little League in which they will be collecting used baseball equipment during their Opening Day festivities. This equipment will be distributed to less fortunate leagues in the Houston Area. There is also a chance that some of the equipment collected may be sent to Poland by Little League International who is trying to get a Little League program started there.
