Resolutions for Our Year of Service

Christianity is practiced. These are traits of the followers of Jesus. God encourages our practice of them and God will help us to do them. Make these the foundation of your Year of Service. (from sermon 2/14/10)

Avoid judgment of others unlike me. Find out who they are and what they yearn for
James 2:1-6

Die to live. Take care of Jesus' business with others outside family and church. God will take care of you.
Luke 9:23-25

Sow generously. Give of your time, talent and treasure to make the Gospel a reality in the lives of others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Don't take it with you, send it ahead. Invest in eternity. It is your ultimate destiny.
Matthew 6:19-24

Embrace variety, Live in unity. Work together to be the Body of Christ for a broken world using your unique gifts, given by God.
1 Corinthians 12:4-12

Year of Service Update
#3
February 19, 2010

Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,

Our Year of Service is still going great. I am amazed especially at the children and youth of our congregation leading the way in so many of these service opportunities.

For those of you who still want to help out but have not yet found your niche, read this newsletter weekly for ideas and contact information. You will find your way to serve.

If you have an idea for a service project and need help in figuring out how to get it going, please contact me and either I will aim you in the right direction or help you find someone who will.
  The Lusk Family Starts Recycling!

Granger Lusk, a St. Andrew's Kindergartener, informed his family this past week that they should begin recycling. The family agreed and they have started their recycling efforts.

Way to go Granger!

homer Partnership Between the Diocese of Texas and Malawi

The Episcopal Diocese of Texas and the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi recently entered into partnership for mutual support and ministry exchange. St. Andrew's will be looking at ways we can enter into this partnership.
  Vitamins for Haiti

Shannan Murray heard about a great program to send vitamins to help the people of Haiti. She connected Father Jim+ with Courtney Zavala (Channel 2 News Anchor) and he also donated money to this cause through an organization called HHRD (Helping Hand for Relief and Deveolpment)

  Helping Stranded Motorist

The Neitzey family had an unexpected chance to serve when they came across a young woman whose car had gone off into a ditch on a County Road near Silverlake. They and another motorist pulled the car out of the ditch.

You never know when a chance to serve (and be an every day hero)will present itself.
