A Year of Service: It's not about me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
Sunday, January 24th, was our Annual Parish Meeting Day. I hope you participated that day in your church's mission. I am writing to summarize our focus for the coming year. Reports for the year just completed will be available at church on Sunday if you did not receive them at the meeting.
Sunday marked the beginning of "A Year of Service." Each year, we focus on one of Jesus' New Testament Purposes for the church. Last year was a year of Discipleship, spent deepening our life of prayer and scripture. This coming year, we will encourage each of us, individually and as a church, to serve in significant areas of outreach to the world - locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
Each of us is asked to serve in some capacity within the church. We will celebrate these ministries as well. But our main focus will be on our service outside the walls of St. Andrew's. Jesus' call is a call to serve in his name.
Here is your part for the coming year.
       Pray for our acts of service
       Pray for new places to serve
       Adopt a servant's heart every day
       Serve somewhere, formally or informally, short term or long term
       Tell us about your service. Take pictures and send to Debbie
        Allensworth txdigger@msn.com
All service counts if you do it for Christ. Participate in a 6 week study called, "A Hole in Our Gospel." Times and places are posted.
I am honored to serve you and look forward to the personal and church growth and health that comes from a life of service to others. Tell me how you are doing. If you see "footprints" in the church entryway, they are the names of those committed to A Year of Service. You will have a chance to add your name if it is not there. Contact me with questions at frjimbo@msn.com.
In Christ,
The Rev. Jim Liberatore
Year of Service Update #1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 4, 2010

Dear St. Andrew's Family & Friends,

We have embarked on a Year of Service for St. Andrew's for 2010 and this newsletter will help us celebrate all we (that includes all of you) are doing in service to our world.

Whenever you enter into an act of service throughout the year, please take the time to send us the information so we can pass it along to help inspires others. Pictures would be wonderful as well.

Thank you for helping us to continue to make St. Andrew's have a positive impact on the Houston area, Texas, the United States and our world!

Crutches for Haiti

Cokesbury United Methodist Church has a mobile medical clinic on its way to Haiti to help in the relief efforts in that earthquake ravaged nation. They put out a call for individuals and organizations to donate used crutches, wheelchairs and other mobility devices to send with their medical personnel to assist the many people who had to have a leg amputated after the earthquake.

St. Andrew's sent along 4 pairs of brand new crutches which they were thrilled (and very surprised) to receive! We sent two pairs of children's crutches and 2 pairs of adult crutches.

Thank you to all of you who prayed over these items and I ask that you continue to pray for those who will receive them.

Students Collect Money for Haiti

This past week, students from E.C. Mason Elementary School collected $370 to send to Compassion International for the children in their program in Haiti. Anna Claire Curl and many other children donated their Tooth Fairy Money and Lunch Money and emptied their piggy banks. This project was led by our own Allison Curl.

Donations to Haiti Relief Efforts Are   Deductible on Your 2009 Taxes

Charitable contributions made before March 1, 2010, in response to the Haiti earthquake can be claimed as itemized charitable deductions on your 2009 tax return instead of waiting to claim these on your 2010 tax return (see The House of Representatives bill H.R. 4462 passed 1/20/10).

As with any tax concern, please consult your own professional advisor to learn how a gift to Haiti relief will affect your tax situation.

Share Your Acts of Service

Help us spread the word about acts of service in which you participate. Send your reports (AND PICTURES) to
debbie@standrewspearland.org.
