| BABY CRIB FOR SALE |
|
Bassett Baby crib with antique white finish. Used by two children in a smoke-free, pet-free home. Purchased for $480, selling for $200. There are a few minor scratches, but because of the "antique" finish, they are barely noticeable. This crib model has never been recalled, and is very easy to put together.

| ALTAR GUILD |
|
|
Dear Friends,
We are having an Altar Guild Open House and training on Saturday, September 12th at 9 am until 11 am. A light breakfast will be served and childcare will be provided upon request. Won't you join us? No obligation.
The Altar Guild is a group of women and men who prepare the worship space for worship, especially the area around the altar. They follow a written (with pictures!) customary to do their work. Their work is a thank-offering of time and many talents, a ministry of love undertaken in the name of Christ.
Altar work goes on quietly behind the scenes. Guilds care for and put out the linen and silver used in worship. Guild members usually like behind-the-scenes work, are regular in worship, and have an attention to detail. They work in concert with the clergy.
Ministry is a few hours a month. Typically, the members serve once a month on teams of 3-5. Work is done on Fridays or Saturdays (set up) and clean up is done on Sunday after the members worship. |

| VESTRY NOMINATIONS |
|
Seven parishioners entered the Discernment process to consider if serving on the Vestry (the leadership team of St. Andrew's) was for them. Anyone wishing to serve on the Vestry must go through Discernment. Currently, there will be 6 openings on Vestry come January 2010.
These seven were Larry Eshleman, Elizabeth Fields, Christine Lusk, Russell Meachen, Cary McDonald, Ed Carrette, and Jeff Campbell. After hearing about Vestry, Christine, Russell, Cary, Ed, and Jeff agreed to run for Vestry to serve from 2010 until 2013. Normally, elections for Vestry would take place the first Sunday in October. Since we have more slots open than people running, the Vestry concluded that an election was not necessary and declared these 5 to be new vestry members. Please give them your thanks and prayers. Also, thank Larry and Elizabeth for their willingness to consider a term in leadership. |
| LEARN ABOUT OTHER FAITHS |
|
|
For the past two years, Christine and I have hosted a dinner for people of all (and no) faiths to get together for a simple meal and discussion. Discussion questions are supplied and the conversation is constructed so that people talk about their faith and not defend it or try to win others over. The night is safe, moderated and fun.
Christine and I have been blessed by the Jews, Muslims, Atheists and various Christians who have been in our home. We would like to encourage you to attend one of these dinners of 8-10 people. It is worth the time. Greater Houston Area Dinner Dialogues NOVEMBER 12, 2009 6:30pm to 9:30pm To learn more of sign up, go to http://www.amazingfaiths.org/index.php Jim Liberatore frjimbo@msn.com |

Fr. Joe In highly accessible language, author Marcus Borg explores what it means to be an authentic Christian in these difficult times. Says Borg, it's not primarily about believing the right things or even being good. The Christian life is about being in relationship with God which transforms us into more compassionate beings, "into the likeness of Christ." The class will
provide the tools to talk about Borg's new vision for a life of Christian faith and how it can change our spiritual lives and Christian communities today. The purpose of the class is to be a time for growth and mutual learning between the
leader and all the participants. Sign up by e-mail to frjoe@standrewspearland.org, or call 281-485-3843. Participants will be asked to purchase the textbook, and
read it!

| RECYCLING |
|
Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out that soda or other beverage can, remind yourself that you are throwing away money that could have gone to the Work Campers. Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off your collection in the old kitchen. We are collecting all the way through July. So please recycle the cans!
Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home or work. When you have an empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center. St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge. |
