| HELP NEEDED |
|
|
One of the results of our great workday we had this Spring was a large pile of limbs next to our dumpster. One of God's children saw that pile and decided it must be a community dump. We are now the not-so-proud owners of an extremely used fence. We need to put the fence and the limbs into our dumpster ASAP. I need some help getting this accomplished. If you are willing to help, I will be working on the pile after 10:30 church this Sunday or you can show up at your convenience any day or night and load up the dumpster. I would suggest wearing gloves and closed-toe shoes. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Ed Woodward, Junior Warden

| SUMMER VACATION |
|
Our vacation season starts this week. Hurray! This summer, keep St. Andrew's with you. Take a vacation from work and school but not from God. Worship here when you are in town. When you are away, bring us back the leaflet and other welcoming stuff form the churches you visit. Please keep your giving current. Summers are a tough time for a church. Giving often drops off and does not catch up again till September. Our financial commitments to our vendors and payroll do not go down in the summer. If you have specials needs due to the stresses of travel, summer expectations, and a lot of family "closeness," please call on me or Joe+. I have you and your families in my prayers. I pray you have a safe and very enjoyable summer. Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com |
| ETIQUETTE |
|
Okay, no one much thinks about etiquette these days. But, I think a Christian should, especially in the impersonal days of texting, email and voicemail. Etiquette is the very Christ-like action of thinking of others first. I am reprinting this from a previous newsletter. The Vestry and I developed this a few years back. Let me know if you have additions. Email or text only to praise or report. And do praise. No one gets enough. Save criticism and bad news (like not showing up or keeping a commitment) to a face-to-face meeting or (second best) a telephone call. Don't bail out over email or text. Answer all your email, and texts and voicemail - preferably in 24 hours. No one likes being ignored. If you do not want correspondence, let people know not to contact you. Reply as if you were replying to Christ. You are. See Matthew 25. Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com |

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out that soda or other beverage can, remind yourself that you are throwing away money that could have gone to the Work Campers. Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off your collection in the old kitchen. We are collecting all the way through July. So please recycle the cans!
Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home or work. When you have an empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center. St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge. | |

CAN YOU AFFORD TO LEND $25.00?
|
|
|
Would you like to help raise hard-working people out of poverty? Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website. It empowers individuals--you and me--to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. About two years ago I chose South America to concentrate on. For a more complete description of how Kiva works, type Kiva in Google. School down to "What is Kiva?" Then go back to the main web site to do some lending. The people we help are individuals or small groups starting or expanding a micro-business, such as a small bakery with one rented oven, selling vegetable on the street, weaving silk fabric, buying baby pigs to raise and sell, a mini-convenience store, a restaurant needing expansion, a mini grocery. The loans are $25 and up, and are usually paid off between six months and one year. One can remove his money when the loan is repaid, or reinvest in another business. I just keep adding on. I receive regular reports on my loans. No interest is paid me.
As of May 5, Kiva was only 43 months old. It had raised $71, 063,885! Repayment rate was 98%! Entrepreneurs funded: 167,782. Lenders: 485,996. Countries represented: 165! Can you think of a better use for your money? Half a new shirt, maybe? Fr. Joe O'Steen

| New Sunday Morning Adult Class |
|
Faith, Hope, and Luck
This series is was such a hit with the Wednesday Evening Small Group that Fr. Joe+ is bringing it to Sunday morning.
Our faith in God often hinges on his activity-or inactivity-in our daily experiences. When our prayers are answered, our faith soars. When God is silent, it becomes harder to trust him. When God shows up in an unmistakable way, our confidence in Him reaches new heights. But when he doesn't come through, our confidence often wanes.
But it doesn't have to be that way-it's not supposed to be that way. This 5-part series is guaranteed to transform your thinking about FAITH. As you listen or watch, you will discover the difference between faith and hope. You will be presented with a definition for FAITH that will shed new light on both the Old and New Testaments.
Begins June 7th Room 107 9:15 am
$2 per person No homework No experience necessary Great small group discussion |
| BOUNDARIES WITH KIDS |
|
Make an Investment in your kids that will last a LIFETIME Childcare provided Class started Thursday, June 4th at 7pm sharp, but anyone is still welcome!
I care about you and your children. So does God. I have been working with kids for 3 decades. One thing I have noticed is that parents need help and skill sets in order to tackle parenting in the 21st century. I know you are busy but I want to offer you an opportunity to impact your child's life years from now. I am offering an 8 session course entitled Boundaries with Kids. The leaders are both people I respect and have heard in person. This is a Christian based offering. Read on. Want to Paint a Happy Future for Your Children? Start Drawing the Line Today. Boundaries with Kids will help you: Recognize the boundary issues underlying child behavior problems Set boundaries and establish consequences with your kids Get out of the "nagging" trap. Stop controlling your kids-and instead help them develop self-control Apply the ten laws of boundaries to parenting. Take six practical steps for implementing boundaries with your kids One of the most loving things you can do for your children is set firm boundaries with them. Boundaries with Kids will help you raise your kids to take responsibility for their own actions, attitudes, and emotions. In eight sessions, Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend help you bring order to problematic circumstances and cultivate healthier ways of relating with your kids. We will do this together. With DVD, discussion and assessments. I would love nothing more than to help you build strong kids. If we are successful, I will offer Boundaries with Teens later. Cost, $20 a family. Peace, Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com |
| SECOND SHOWING- EVERYTHING IS SPIRITUAL |
|
We had a huge turnout for the first showing of this fantastic DVD so we are having a second showing at
9:00 sharp in room 107 on Sunday 7/26.
Mark your calendar.
8:00 worshipers will be able to leave early. 10:30 worshipers will get out in time for worship.
Popcorn provided!
In the Hebrew scriptures there is no word for "spiritual." And Jesus never used the phrase "spiritual life." Why? Because for Jesus and his tradition, all of life is spiritual. But what does that really mean?
Come to Everything is Spiritual, a DVD presentation tying science and spirituality together.
"...this captivating, humorous look at the physical world and at human existence as body and spirit will help you start engaging the churched and unchurched, high school students and beyond, who have serious questions or interest in how science coexists with spirituality." - Youthworker Journal |

| AMAZING GRACE |
|
John Newton was a slave trader in England in the 1700's. He was an Anglican (Episcopalian) and wrote, in collaboration with his priest, Amazing Grace, one of our most beloved Christian songs. Through an amazing relationship with his wife, Newton came to realize that, as a result of his work as a slave trader, only God's grace could save him. Ultimately, Newton fought to abolish slave trade. On Sunday, July 26th at both services, all the music and the sermon will be devoted to Amazing Grace. We have a number of versions - bagpipes, brass, gospel, modern, new age, Celtic, Native American - of Amazing Grace for you that day. Bring your friends. Also, at noon that day, there will be a showing of the movie, Amazing Grace, about John Newton. Lunch and childcare will be provided for those who request it. To request this, email Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com. |
