RECYCLING

Cans -
Every time you are ready to throw out that soda or other beverage can, remind yourself that you are throwing away money that could have gone to the Work Campers. Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off your collection in the old kitchen. We are collecting all the way through July. So please recycle the cans!

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home or work. When you have an empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle box in  the Foyer of the Family Life Center.  St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge.

ARE YOU MAJORING IN THE MINORS?

I don't know about you but, when I get going, I
often lose sight of exactly where I was headed.
The only thing that will last in my life is my
relationship with God. That's eternal. I want to
spend eternity being loved. God will do that. All
this earthly stuff will pass away. Most days,
however, are geared towards getting a bunch
of tasks done that, if I examined them, I would
find few get me closer to heaven. In fact, many,
while not bad in and of themselves, will keep
me busy with very unimportant things that get
me off track. It is the tyranny of the urgent.
Heaven actually gets further away in all my
busyness.

Simple tasks, the crises of the day, and pressure
from our surroundings crowd out my journey to
the eternal. I wind up majoring in the minors.
That is, I focus on things that really do not
matter but are manageable or pesky. Even well
meaning friends and family can draw me from God.
Activities that should bring some meaning to my
life take over it. There is a Filipino saying to the
effect that Westerners wear their god on their
wrist. What can I do?

Although it is counter intuitive; take time. God
made the 24 hour day and even he could rest.
When I take time to reflect, I can sort through
what is urgent (and often expendable) and what
is important (and often points to heaven.) The
heavenly road is paved with the "important." I
know that when worship and prayer become
expendable, I am aimed away from my heavenly
goal. Loving God in these ways is often what we
drop first. Heaven slips away. Eternity any place
else is not acceptable. God aim me towards
heaven!

Stop. Just stop. Ask yourself. "What is urgent in
my life and what is important?"  "Who or what,
though well meaning, is dragging me down?"

Then stay stopped for a moment and ask? "God,
how can I love you more?" Tell God that you
need help in order to get to heaven. People who
stop and reflect actually have more time to major
in the majors. God sees to that.

Never forget that I love you and pray for you and
gently nudge you towards heaven. Feel free to
nudge me back. The world may be crazier than
ever today but our God can handle that and,
with his help, so can I (and you).

See you Sunday.
Jim+

FAMILY PROMISE

Family Promise of Clear Creek has been officially
launched! Family Promise is a ministry for
homeless families. Your own St. Andrew's was
the first church to sign up and help found FPCC.

Debbie Allensworth, Jim Liberatore, Jessica
Liberatore and Debbie Mayfield were elected
members of the Board of Directors. Debbie
Allensworth was elected President and Debbie
Mayfield was elected secretary. Congratulations!
Jim and Jessica will be working on getting the 12
other churches needed for this ministry to
actually accept its first homeless family.

Family Promise houses 2-3 homeless families in
churches for a week. Each church does this once
a quarter.

You will all get a chance to spend a meal or an
evening assisting the area homeless families.
Currently, according to the school district, there
are about 12 homeless children just in Pearland.

Please pray for this ministry in your daily prayers.
The area homeless will probably only increase over
the next year or so.

Jim+

Friends,
We recently announced the formation of Family
Promise of Clear Creek, a ministry for homeless
families, in which St. Andrew's did and will play a
significant role.

You may not have seen the Time article (of late
March) that I have linked below about
homelessness. The lead picture is of Ty'jhanae
Walker with her violin. She is a Family Promise child
of a Minneapolis area Family Promise group.

Click the link below. Include the homeless in your
daily prayers.

TOWN HALL FOR HOPE

Have you heard the big news? We are gearing up
for a one-time national event called Town Hall for
Hope! This thing is contagious! And we will host
one of the viewings RIGHT HERE AT St. Andrew's!
Over 3,000 organizations have signed up to host
the event.

Town Hall for Hope has a single purpose: to spread
hope across our country. Dave Ramsey will address
the nation live with straight talk about what's really
going on with the economy. He will discuss the
history of the economy, a biblical worldview, real
stats, and steps to take toward hope! Plus, he will
take questions from around the country. And it's
completely FREE!

Churches all over the U.S. will promote the event
and then broadcast the live feed in their facilities
on Thursday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. CDT.

Visit www.townhallforhope.com.

Be there!

SUMMER CAMP AT CAMP ALLEN

I did 12 years of summer camp at our Episcopal
Camp, Camp Allen, near Navasota in the piney
woods. Camp Allen is a great place. Kids from
going-into-3rd-grade through high school can go.
We have camp applications in the office. Contact
or come by the office. You owe it to your kids
or grand kids to give them a Camp Allen memory.
